22 February 2010 at 7:23 pm #23817We’ll see in two weeks’ time won’t we.
But when we beat Birmingham on Saturday please come back on this board next Monday so I can see if I can turn your scepticism back into optimism!
Not being funny, honestly, but did you go yesterday?
If so, what on earth gives you the impression we will beat Birmingham? Don’t forget, they beat us convincingly at the D.W. Stadium. I cannot see us getting anything, to be honest.
Griff,
How on earth can anybody with eyes actually remain positive with how we are performing? Don’t forget, until a week or two ago, I was SUPPORTING Martinez, and trying to be all positive. Ok, deep down I was thinking “We’re in bad trouble, here”. But I put on a positive front. Is that what people are doing? I supported the fella, yet I was getting increasingly concerned at his post match comments, and finding positives out of nothing. I’ve never known a manager look as pleased after a defeat. Someone like Jewell would have been too angry to be interviewed after some of those results and performances.
Yet I went to the game yesterday, in a supportive frame of mind. However that was all quickly dashed, by his weird team selection, substitutes, and lack of variation. I mean, we went 4-4-2 for about 5 minutes, looked alright, and then he changed it back. Why did he do that? Why did he put Sinclair on? They guy is so naive, it is unbelievable. All in all, it made my mind up once and for all. The people who all sit around me, ST holders, are all in the same frame of mind, as well.
And Griff, whilst we may not be in a position to give Barcelona a game  did you not read that comment from someone earlier, saying we’ll possibly get 3 points at Birmingham, and something off Liverpool at home? God knows what they base these theories on. I think at best, we can hope for a point at Birmingham. But I expect us to get nothing.
I can only opine on what I have seen on the pitch. And that’s what I am doing. If we were playing well, I would say so.
And to add to what Tyldsley has just said, I haven’t once booed the lads of the pitch or shouted ‘Martinez Out’, at a game.
22 February 2010 at 7:26 pm #23818Can’t agree with your assessment of our team I’m afraid.
The back four, bar the addition of Caldwell, is the same that got us into a good position in the first half of last season. We also have the same keeper as the last few years.
We have two fantastic prospects in central midfield in McCarthy and Diame, one of the best wingers in the league in N’Zogbia, one of English football’s brightest talents in Moses and a centre forward who has great potential and could prove to be a real handful in Rodallega.
You can’t judge Moreno on two appearances, but anyone who was top scorer in Liberatores and has scored against Argentina and Brazil with an almost one in two strike rate must have something about them.
We also have a dangerous winger in defence in Sinclair and I haven’t even mentioned Scharner, whose best position for me will always be at centre half!

1, the defence is much better with Caldwell in there.
2, the defence is much better with Scharner in there, point being that when he is there, he isn’t in midfield.
3, McCarthy looks very promising
4, Burnley and Hull look woeful
5, Pompey are probably doomed
6, we now have 4 strikers who don’t look like scoring rather than just 2.
7, it’s my birthday on WednesdayThey are enough to keep me going.

1, the defence is much better with Caldwell in there. Jury is out on that.
2, the defence is much better with Scharner in there, point being that when he is there, he isn’t in midfield. I prefer him to Thomas.
3, McCarthy looks very promising Definitely agree. Be gone in a year.
4, Burnley and Hull look woeful Not sure, not really seen them.
5, Pompey are probably doomed Probably, one way or the other.
6, we now have 4 strikers who don’t look like scoring rather than just 2. You’ve got that right.
7, it’s my birthday on Wednesday All the best for Wednesday. They are enough to keep me going.
I think for me, I just know that if we go down, I will go to more aways, so I’ll enjoy some good days out, and the fixture list won’t be messed about with as much as it is now. (Mon March 29th, City away. Then Fri April 2nd, Fulham away. Nightmare, that)
Maybe our clubs ‘Community Meinschaft’ will return again?
Dare I say things would be freshened up? A new replica, with the ‘Coca Cola’ patches on. Not normally a replica type, but if we go down I will. And besides, this current kit is awful.
22 February 2010 at 7:58 pm #23826All the best for Wednesday.
Thank youAnd besides, this current kit is awful.
Nowt like kicking the club when you think it’s down, is there?22 February 2010 at 8:02 pm #23828All the best for Wednesday.

Nowt like kicking the club when you think it’s down, is there?
‘Tis though, in’t it? Adidas strips circa 2000 were far better. Last decent strip was Umbro. And remember, same price, poorer quality!
And that orange monstrosity? Who the frig designed that? Darren Orme? Well, it matches his hair, I suppose…….
22 February 2010 at 10:33 pm #23844Vat69, I thought the first half against Birmingham at home was possibly the best I’ve seen us play this season, apart from the finishing, we should have been 5-0 up at half time.

Sorry you’re right, we were poor in the second half ! :D

23 February 2010 at 12:02 am #23899Martinez lost my support when after playing 2 up front and doing well for 15mins he went and put sinclair on and played 1 up again, could not believe that
23 February 2010 at 1:57 am #2390616/5 for a Wigan win at Birmingham with Paddy Power, not bad really.

Plus, I think you have to actually convert the chances you have to go 5-0 up rather than just count them
