17 April 2013 at 6:17 pm #109773I’m not knocking the idea – but a 100-seater plane will not be half the price of a 200-seater.
I’m sure the club have contacts they can use.
One possibility maybe, is that if it really is in the furthest depths of Uzbekistan, could the club make available 25-50 or so seats on the team’s plane?

Likewise a longer distance doesn’t necessarily make it much more expensive eg went to Dublin 2 years ago it was £60 (30min) Tenerife 3 months later was £80 (4hrs) same airline.
Pipe dream at this stage, but once we know when and where we’re going the club should look at getting a plane arranged.
I’m up for it, depending on price obviously and preferably somewhere we won’t get our heads kicked in by neo Nazis

Hypothetical question / straw pollIf a sports travel company was offering trips for Wigan’s European games, which option would you go for?
Bear in mind the airlines also watch the UEFA draws, and prices will rise with demand so you may have to be creative and it would involve overnight stays and possibly long journeys?
A. Day trip by air £299
B. One night/two day by air £359
C. Two day by coach £139
D. Make your own way there
(NB: Prices are approximate)
D.
I’ve heard of cases where plane loads of Everton and also Liverpool fans have been sat on the plane and the flight has dell through because they’ve booked with a charter travel firm who has gone bust
Seriously.
I will be booking independently and as soon as its drawn.

ERxactly how hypothetical a question is this?
18 April 2013 at 12:50 am #109822You can save money if you can afford to take the time off and travel via X with a lay-over of at least one night, but if time is your most scarce commodity, a day trip by charter flight is by far the most convenient option.
My concern is however, there won’t be 150-250 Wiganers willing to shell out on a day trip to make it viable.
Charter our own plane for 150-200

Can’t say I’ve chartered one before, but might not be as far fetched as it sounds, especially if we get drawn somewhere Easyjet/Ryanair don’t go [/quote]
I’m referring to a charter by a sports travel company – exactly the sort of thing they have done for every English club that has played in Europe.18 April 2013 at 12:57 am #109823I’m not knocking the idea – but a 100-seater plane will not be half the price of a 200-seater.I’m sure the club have some contacts to advise them.
One thought though. If we’re playing somewhere really obscure with only a few wanting to go – could the club get a slightly bigger plane themselves and 25-50 fans could travel with the team?
And that answers your question of what the smaller Scottish teams do and what Blackburn did for some of their games in Europe!

The prices are hypothetical. ;)18 April 2013 at 2:21 am #109863Anonymous
It would all depend on how much it would cost.
I’ve done 4 days in Krakow for two people, flights and central apartment for £220.
If I had that type of option, I would choose it over a day trip at £399 per person. If its somewhere worth a visit, I will turn it into a break away.

Sorry ABL, for your tastes
Kit Kat is a chocolate-covered wafer biscuit bar confection that was created by Rowntree’s of York, England, and is now produced worldwide by Nestlé, which acquired Rowntree in 1988,[1] except in the United States where it is made under licence by the Hershey Company. Each bar consists of fingers composed of three layers of wafer, covered in an outer layer of chocolate. Each finger can be snapped from the bar separately. Bars typically have 2 or 4 fingers. Larger Kit Kat Chunky bars are also popular.
18 April 2013 at 2:53 am #109876I’d really like to join an organised trip, but it would need to fly from Luton or Heathrow for me pease ;)
And at least one member of this board is a director of a company that specialises in group travel and event management
18 April 2013 at 3:00 am #109877It’s very complicated. What we need is someone with experience of arranging foreign football travel. If only there was someone on this board who did that ;)
I’ve arranged around 10 trips to Catalans if that counts :cheer:
