Anyone else miss the buzz of the FA cup it’s the 1st round this weekend and ITv are showing Poulton Rovers v Norwich I remember going to some non league grounds when we were in the 3rd/4th divisions Runcorn and alty any way heres a write up of the above game
6 November 2009 at 2:16 pm #12344can’t say I miss it cos I wasn’t there.
but I can imagine how good it must have been going to non league grounds as the league team.
did latics win most of them are were they ‘giant killed’
Only game I remember when this happened was canvey island.6 November 2009 at 2:33 pm #12345I miss it. It was the highlight of our season, and we took some good turn outs to footballing outposts like Barrow, Runcorn, and Alty.
Is it really 30 years ago when we played Northwich in that fog?6 November 2009 at 3:10 pm #12347I see the usual selection of team member’s jobs listed in the mail too, including a 26 year-old property developer. Bet he has a proper footballer haircut and white boots, like that Kevin Doyle fella.
We’ll see on telly tonight, I guess.
I alwaysd found that thing of playing on their window-cleaner/postman/brickie thing a bit condescending but I suppose the lads involved are just pleased to get their 15 minutes.

That one reply makes me feel really old. I was 11 when I went to that game.
Mind you, I might have had more in common with Mr Logic at that age than I do now!
6 November 2009 at 4:22 pm #12360Obviously being a young 29 i missed out on the non league days but i remember some great fa cup ties in the lower divisions…saying that i also remember canvey island and being convinced that Jewell was gone come monday!
6 November 2009 at 6:19 pm #12362Sorry to take this off topic a tad, but for those doing the prediction league there is a full FA Cup weekend starting tonight, so get your scores in for them.
Also the Premier League is needing your scores for it’s prediction League as well.
Carry on…..
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
6 November 2009 at 8:30 pm #12370seems just like yesterday that runcorn away game.we had half of canal street(i think that was the name of there ground)it was 1-1 i think.did barry knowles get the equalizer for us in the 80th min?.what i do remember was the replay at springy.was it 5-0 to us? it was the day when the space shuttle blew up!
7 November 2009 at 2:54 am #12384I remember it was wet and miserable. Their floodlights weren’t up to tv standards for MOTD so they had a massive searchlight thingy in one corner. Looked like they had rescued it from the blitz!
7 November 2009 at 11:49 am #12392I remember when we were non league, the FA Cup was the highlight………..
Beating Shrewsbury,York City,Sheffield Wednesday was special…..
Getting beat by Matlock in the 1st Round was pretty depressing at the time though!

3 times we went to that ground, 1st time it was cancelled prior to kick off,2nd time was the match of the fog, and 3rd time we drew 2 all after leading 2 nil. I’ve never been to a football match with as much crowd trouble, I remember police reinforcements marching out the tunnel to a chorus of “you’ll never catch the ripper” who was at large at the time, also remember a copper catching a dart in the face and having his boat all over the front covers of the sunday papers the following day.
In the replay at Springfield Park, Derek Brownbill came off the bench to score the winner with a glancing header in the last minute to end the mother of all epic cup ties. I can still see that fat keepers face now, Ryan?18 November 2009 at 9:23 pm #13129I miss it.
