………………How?
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
17 January 2012 at 4:44 am #78438Did he escape a red card !!
17 January 2012 at 4:48 am #78440Difficult one this.
Maybe it’s because the ref didn’t show one.
Just a thought like.
Maggots.17 January 2012 at 1:27 pm #78462I like Figueroa – I think he is decent but he is being played in the wrong position
The red card? – he shouldnt have been the last man defending on the half way line, he is better employed elsewhere on the pitch.

Exactly! I’d love to see him playing further up the field but until there is a suitable replacement, or Boyce is back in a playing frame of mind again, he’s the best option we’ve got.17 January 2012 at 6:21 pm #78511Last night proved that we are better suited to the 3 at the back system.
The sooner Fig goes to left wing back with less defensive duties the better. He is dangerous going forward but sometimes in defence he plays like a 6 year old.
Stam is also more suited to wing back , so the sooner Boyce is ready the better.

I think Boyce is back in the fold again. I’ve heard one of his kids was in intensive care whilst his wife was heavily pregnant.
Understandable that he hasn’t been playing.
17 January 2012 at 7:45 pm #78518Did he escape a red card !!Surely all fouls by Wigan players could be deemed as stopping a goal as we are so poor at defending……
Probably because he was in the Wigan half.
17 January 2012 at 7:50 pm #78519Regards to the Fig hand ball I also thought it was worth a straight red for the reason of denying the opposition a goal scoring opportunity.
However, after watching it again on the the replay, he was just inside the opposition half, there was a Wigan player within 10 yards of the incident in full stream trying to get back. When the ref blew for the hand ball this player was almostt in line with the incident .
The gary cahill sending off was rescinded due to the distance from goal the incident took place and the position of the other bolton defender.
For me he got it bang on.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!17 January 2012 at 7:57 pm #78520He was the last man, so if taken to the letter of the law surely that’s a sending off?

When the ref blew for the hand ball this player was almostt in line with the incident .So you are truly, honestly saying that you don’t think it was a red card? Your defence of the team and optimism is sometimes admirable but this post proves that you really don’t have a balanced view and are constantly wearing the rose-tinted proverbials.
Probably as blatant case for a red card as I’ve ever seen.
17 January 2012 at 8:27 pm #78524He was the last man, so if taken to the letter of the law surely that’s a sending off?The laws of the game don’t mention anything about a last man. In the case of a handball it states you can dismiss a player from the field of play for deliberate handball if they “deny the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal scoring opportunity”.
For me that’s an obvious goal scoring opportunity even if Figueroa was in his own half as Aguerro would have been clean through on goal & the chasing defender (who at the moment of the handball was the distance of half the centre circle + 3 or 4 yards away) was Gary Caldwell who wouldn’t have caught him in a month of Sunday’s. This leaves the City forward in a 1 on 1 with the keeper & in my book is an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
Having looked on a ref’s website this morning though not every ref sees it that way

Is there a law mentioning ‘the last man’ for fouls – or is it just common myth and hearsay? If there is, surely you should also have it included for handballs like that?It was one of the most blatant sendings off I’ve seen for a long while in my opinion, and I can’t see how it can be debated otherwise.
For the record, I’m glad he wasn’t send off.
