Was the Spain one part of the double header that killed the pitch off? It pelted down for 180 minutes and it was a mess for months after.
I think the France one was when Cisse scored a hat-trick as well wasn’t it? Wasn’t aware Kirkland had played in goal.
8 August 2014 at 5:31 pm #132690Yes the England v Spain was preceded by Germany v Holland.
In the France game Cisse scored two (complete with somersaults after scoring), and Ahamada scored the other. I remember thinking at the time that Ahamada looked a future prospect, but a recurring injury put paid to any great success and he has moved around France and Portugal, and currently plays for USJA Carquefou in Division 6 (=Conference North).
8 August 2014 at 10:33 pm #132691I was sort of aiming at young players who have been ‘Bigged Up’ and gone on to obscurity rather than stardom! Who remembers Jody Morris? Another promising teenager who went on to nothingness!Jack Rodwell will be the next.
Overhyped powderpuff.

9 August 2014 at 2:29 pm #132700Remember a player ( eighties )from the north east called shaun murray who was hailed as the next Bobby Charlton. All the top clubs in the country were after him before he went to Spurs- think he ended up at Notts county or somewhere.
another one that springs to mind is Rod Thomas who was also tipped for great things.
Francis Jeffers also springs to mind .9 August 2014 at 11:30 pm #132704Remember a player ( eighties )from the north east called shaun murray who was hailed as the next Bobby Charlton. All the top clubs in the country were after him before he went to Spurs- think he ended up at Notts county or somewhere.

He signed for Southport in October 2013, but was released two months later.
10 August 2014 at 3:07 pm #132714I don’t remember the media hyping Ellington when he was a teenager!
