Is there anybody out there who can check in statistics to see if this is the first time ever we have not won an home game in all our games played over the Autumn and Winter in a season. I suspect that must be a first for us and maybe a first in football in the English game. This is with September being classed as Autumn and the 21st of March being the last day of Winter.
Whelan, Jackson, Sharpe, Rosler, MacKay plus a pile of coaches, scouts and backroom staff and of course a load of underworked but overpayed players creating records.
Well done everyone.19 March 2015 at 12:37 am #140476Can anyone do any stats to say that this board gets reet busy after a loss compared to an win :silly: :silly:
19 March 2015 at 1:08 am #140479I’ve ran those stats and yes it does get busy after a loss. Wiganers for you eh (even if several of those that post after a loss aren’t Wiganers)
19 March 2015 at 10:06 am #140491With no home games won over the entire winter I think the wiganers have been superb. Contrast that with the toy throwers up at blunder land whose team had a bad game against an inform team and preceded to leave the ground at half time!
Not seen that at wigan and I think the crowd have been very patient .19 March 2015 at 10:55 am #140493I for one are one of the first to post on here after a win and I do even congratulate Malky for that too. But my post asked if anyone knew if we had never won a home game all Autumn and Winter before or if anyone else had.
19 March 2015 at 2:25 pm #140502I post after rare wins also! The thing is, even the more positive/realistic ( That’s what they like to be called these days!) fans don’t even post after a win! We could be relegated several times and end up in the Evo Stik League and there would still be some saying that it’s been a great journey and at the end of the day this is where we belong! This club had a fantastic chance to establish itself as a Championship club that maybe would get a stint in the Prem now and again, a club too good for League One football but for some reason that opportunity was not taken and austerity measures were deemed a more viable option. I wasn’t asking the club to sink loads of money into trying to be something that we would never be but I am pretty sure we could have achieved the aforementioned status without getting into financial difficulties! This debacle is not normal, I don’t care what some may try and say, the whole fiasco is a fuckin joke!

We spent big in the summer and it backfired. Had those signings done well then we could quite easily have been in the playoff hunt or an established side. It didn’t work so we had to re-coup the money somehow otherwise we would make a loss at the end of the season and would be in a worse position next season when we try to balance the books again.
The fact that our 8 year stay in the PL didn’t cripple us is an amazing feat considering our entire TV money was spent on wages and our crowds are piss poor. Take away the TV money and lower the crowds and you’re left with what we’ve got. It’s sad but it’s true. We can’t spend what we don’t have unless we’re willing to risk our future.

Sammy summed it up perfectly with his comment on another thread about DW and his clouded judgment and bad mistakes since we got relegated from the Prem! He should have stepped down then so that we could start afresh but he didn’t and as a result his decisions have been questionable and there has been a very negative feel to the club! Like I keep saying, in 28 seasons just 3.7% of sides relegated from the Prem have gone down again within 2 seasons, 3.7% ! That is a minority, unfortunately one that we are now almost part of!
20 March 2015 at 2:08 am #140518An investment in a decent striker last season may well have put us back in the Premier League and any money invested would have been re-couped ten fold.
This season we spent money on players who where never utilised, deemed not good enough by Rosler and MacKay. If we look at our transfer deficit over this season that so called investment is very little for a club that wanted promotion. The towel was thrown in over Christmas and further money saved on wages and we have ended up with journeymen and loanees.
A very close parallel to Blackpool Football Club. Play within financial boundaries and get relegated or push the debt to extremes like Cardiff, Bolton and Blackburn and be quite safe. These three are ridden with debt but will they go pop? Doubt it. In a way its a kind of cheating. -
