This Latics stalwart has taken a lot of stick this season. On the one hand, he was sacked by Whelan in the third division 20-odd years ago, but he has also shared in some of our greatest successes and could have gone to Everton with Martinez.
What’s intriguing is that he’s formed a good relationship with each new manager who’s come in, but his role seems to change depending on the individuals. Despite having been assistant manager at the time, for example, he admits to being mystified as to why Joyce left Grigg out this season.
So, where do we think he should be next season? On the training ground, where the players seem to really like him? In the dugout (because, as a manager, he at least had more about him than Joyce? Moved upstairs, as a director of football type? Or at home watching his Freight Rover Trophy DVD?

In the dugout and on the training pitch doing what he does best!

A new manager should be installed and be able to bring in his own team but I still think room should be made to accommodate GB.
He is a trusted and experienced bloke and needs to be involved in some way. He is Wigan Athletic through and through and can offer a great deal to any management team that comes in.
Whether that is at a Director of Football level or a Youth / Development level is not our decision, but I think the powers that be recognise his value and will fit him in somewhere.
Dave Crompton, many years ago was dispensed with and I can remember thinking at the time that it was a mistake, I hope we don’t make a similar mistake this time.28 April 2017 at 3:30 am #158462At home putting his feet up. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!28 April 2017 at 10:52 am #158463I reckon most fans will be getting ready to put their feet up after this pathetic season of mistakes.
I can’t help thinking that we have a nucleus of a good squad that only requires a left midfielder and we should storm League one. The squad with the right positive manager should do well even if we lose a couple of faces.
Here’s looking forward to pre-season and let us all hope we hit the ground running unlike last season’s awfull preparation.28 April 2017 at 12:00 pm #158464At home putting his feet up. Thanks for all he has done but my opinion is that the club needs a breath of fresh air!

Just what the club needs. Supporters who stay away just because this season hasn’t been one of the best. Whatever happened to supporting a club through the good times & bad.

Phil, I hope you will be back at your vociferous best with a new season ticket in your hand for our League One campaign in August.

You are right there Phil.
We seem to have just got out of the habit of going for a pre match bevvy. I think it has been mainly a case of wanting to get the day over as quick as possible coz its been so shite.29 April 2017 at 4:47 pm #158488At home putting his feet up.
