But least likely to do the job what Carrick is suppost to be doing this is where we have missed Hargreaves imo
25 May 2010 at 2:37 am #34649You’re right but if Barry is fit he starts anyway and so no need for Carrick to go, who offers nothing IMO. Even if Barry gets injured, Gerrard could play the holding role – not his best position but he’d be better than Carrick. Easy then, Cole goes.
I hope Fabio’s reading this. :!:

err doubt it
25 May 2010 at 2:44 am #34652If Barry is going to be fit do we really need Carrick to go, as he is cack and then we could take Joe Cole instead who is miles better and can play most positions in the midfield. He’s also more likely to score a goal or contribute with an assist. So on one hand we have Fabio Capello, Sir Alex and Harry Redknapp to name just 3 who rate Carrick, then we have you who doesn’t. Im finding it difficult to know who to believe.
If Joe Cole goes it will be to play on the left. He cannot adapt to centre midfield in a world cup and be expected to have an effect considering he’s never even really played there. Carrick doesn’t always shine like Gerrard or Lampard but he’s up there with the best passers in the team and having him in a 5 man midfield would work well.
25 May 2010 at 2:56 am #34655Yeah he’s up there with the best passers in the team…at passing it sideways. Fair play he’s a decent player, and yes he’s respected by all the big name manager’s that you mentioned but he’s still not better than the likes of Gerrard, Lampard and Barry, so he’s not going to start. My argument is that if were losing in a quarter final to a Germany or whatever he (Cole) could come on and find us a goal from somewhere, whearas in my humble opinion Carrick couldn’t. (Satchel face and Brandy face can do one) I like Fabio though.

I agree in that J Cole offers much more of an offensive threat but, and although a was a friendly, Carrick did come on at half time vs Egypt in March and changed the game from 0-1 to 3-1. A combination of him and Walcott coming off the bench late on could cause some damage (in my opinion)
Id like to find room for J Cole in the 23 but im torn between him and Adam Johnson.

I didn’t notice Carrick was on the pitch until he was coming off for Huddlestone. He’s a decent player for Man Utd, but they could do better – he’s had a poor season for him and he’s fallen down the pecking order, I think he would have played more if Scholes hadn’t had an amazing run of form.
Then again I never really saw Huddlestone either, perhaps that position in midfield renders you invisible? We certainly play the wide game as opposed to down the middle.

even man u fans think carrick is rubbish – if utd sign another midfielder this close season and hargreaves completes his return from injury carrick wont get a game
1932 you quoted fergy and capello rating him – if they do why does he only play for both england and united when there is no-one else.25 May 2010 at 1:45 pm #34680Anonymous

I think he’d play in a more attacking position, but he plays the sort of positions Carrick fills in at the moment, so it could be bad for him.

Good point, however you could always bring King on to sit in front of the back four and behind Barry, if were looking to close a game out. There are other players for me who warrant a place more than Carrick. I’d be more inclined to give Huddlestone the nod over Carrick, just going off their respective seasons and both are similar players.
I’d take Cole over Johnson, just because Cole has more experience and Johnson looks a bit lightweight. He is, however, undoubtedly a good player.
Like you said though, it’s just an opinion.
25 May 2010 at 3:09 pm #346881932 you quoted fergy and capello rating him – if they do why does he only play for both england and united when there is no-one else.Because sure, there are better players. Id have him behind Lampard, Gerrard & Barry (and a fit Hargreaves). However with 2 of those not fit he should go as a backup based on what he can offer. His all round game isnt always perfect if he’s in a flat midfield 4 but when we change to 4-5-1 which we will do when were leading in games, he’ll be effective.
Agree with tickmon82 that King can also do a decent job coming on into that 5 man midfield, it just depends on the circumstances of the game to know which player would be more appropriate.
25 May 2010 at 5:19 pm #34695I think Baines looked better in the 2nd half as the left winger came back to help him. gerrard left him exposed for much of the 1st half. I think he will go as back up to Cole as Capello obviously prefers him to Warnock
