Not sure that I’d swap Beausejour for McClean.

McClean can only use his left foot, loses the ball far too often, and takes no defensive responsibility.

Just like I said in my post Beausejour was awful today, never beat a man, one cross in the first half which missed everyone out it was hit that hard. He is our worst regular player. As soon as McLean went left he started to beat men and get crosses in. Gomez wanted 10 mins on the ball without a challenge. If we had our full team I think we would be pretty good.

Al habsi Boyce Ramis rogue perch Espinoza McArthur mcmanaman Powell Maloney fortune. No Gomez definitely no beausejour.

This has to be a wind-up.

In my view Beausejour had a steady game. Nothing spectacular, but little wrong and did well when he went to left back. McClean did a lot better when he was moved to the left, but that isn’t difficult as he was frighteningly bad on the right.

And as for Gomez – he’s our only creative midfielder, and has been one of our best players this season, but he’s still gettinng stick from some supporters because he doesn’t hare around the pitch kicking people.

I could understand the reason for bringing on Holt and rearranging the team. Wigan badly needed two goals, and Blackburn’s centre-half had been sent off.

McClean as a left-footed left-winger would be able to cross for Holt. Blackburn only had Rhodes upfront, so Beausejour could go forward as a left-footed left-back.

It was harder to understand the original lineup, although Wigan still have a significant injury list which restricts Coyle’s choice. And all except Rogne had started on Thursday night against Maribor.

After the Watford game, I feared that our luck had run out. We did take three valuable points but, as Wellington said at Waterloo, it was the nearest run thing you ever saw.

Once i saw barnett was not in your best 11 i stopped reading.
However ill bite. Gomez and watson get on the ball most and try to break teams down the most therefore likely to cock it up the most hence get the stick the most.

Gomez is to slow on the ball that is why when you look he gets caught so many times, watsons corners were the best I’ve seen for a long time, looks like Coyle has had him practicing in training, credit where it’s due, rogue and Ramis are solid centre halves. Beausejour did nothing in the game. He is in the front three behind the striker to get the ball in the box. He can not do that if there is a player in front of him as he cannot beat anyone. The amount of times he goes backwards with the ball shows how good he is. He looks overweight too. Looks like B A Baraccus. How would Maloney play in that position, enough said……

        Never a truer word.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, it just so happens that I don’t agree with any of yours. Nothing personal.

Maloney is injured for starters, so he doesn’t even come into the equation, and the general consensus is he’s wasted out wide.

Have you only just noticed Beausejour? He’s looked overweight for three seasons and during those seasons he’s been one of the league’s top crossers. He was joint top at Wigan last season with Maloney for most assists, and as for not beating a man – you don’t have to get to the byline to put a cross in. Beckham made a career out of it.

How does going backwards show Beausejour to be a bad player? He’s retaining possession when he’s not certain of being able to put a cross in. The alternative is to kick and rush – like McClean – with 50% of the time you get past the man and hopefully put a cross in and 50% you hand the ball over to the opposition.

And BA Baraccus – seriously? The man with a bull neck and a mohawk? Is it because he’s stocky and of a darker complexion?

Gomez does get caught with the ball, but how often? Two, maybe three times a game? Compare that to the number of times he plays a pass that the other midfielders wouldn’t have seen. If he had more pace to go with the skill he clearly has, he wouldn’t be playing for us.

And as for Watson practicing corners in training? He’s always practiced corners in training. Martinez once said in training every corner was right on the target, but when it came to a game, and the first one didn’t going to plan, the crowd started to get on his back and his confidence drained.

You weren’t one of those were you?

Never a true word but I disagree with what you said, ba yes he does with the goatie beard, you can get 3rd division players who can pass back all day, the formation we are playing he is in an attacking role, unfortunately he can not unless a ball is threaded through and he has no one to beat. Maloney is not that wide in a 4 2 3 1 formation, they are classed as attacking midfielders. If it was 4 4 2 he would be classed as wide. Gomez gets fouled more than any other player, like I said because he wants to much time on the ball, basically he is to slow, I don’t think I have see him sprint more that 20 yards, every time we break and he has the ball he slows the play down and passes sideways, thus spoiling the chance. Maybe Dicko would do a decent job on the left as he has pace. As for Beckham he was the best in the world at it, that’s why he didn’t have to beat anyone.
          Just my humble opinion.
