15 August 2010 at 12:53 am #42541Where are the McCullochs, the De Zeeuws, the Kavanaghs? They were players that gave us everything for a number of seasons, and only left because they were released or a genuine “dream move” came calling for them. These current players are always looking for the next transfer, and if they can’t get it they’ll orchestrate one!
A manager with more steel would stick a player like Figueroa straight onto the transfer list after his insulting performance today. I don’t want to see him putting on the shirt again.
Agree, and I’ve said the same elsewhere. As for Figueroa, if we can still manage to sell him…..get him bloody sold. Doesn’t want to be here, as a guy sat in front of me shouted to him today.
15 August 2010 at 2:24 am #42591Had to chuckle at Pelican’s post above regarding “homegrown players”. Are you aware Wigan are the only top flight team without an academy/centre of excellence? Wigan’s idea of players are those released by local clubs at 16 i.e Baines.
You won’t see an academy either as they are subsidized, Whelan doesn’t do that being a businessman.

I meant players that qualify as “homegrown” under the new squad selection rules, I’m well aware we don’t have a proper youth setup.
Then again, Liverpool do and it does them no good, they just buy bargies from the back streets of Buenos Aries.
And if our current way of doing things brought a player like Baines in then I think you might want to choose an example of a bad player to put your point across. We need another Baines right now.
15 August 2010 at 3:10 am #42605BRING IN PAUL JEWELL TO SORT THE TEAM OUT WE ARE RUBBISH.THE TEAM AS NO INTEREST IN MARTINEZ HE AS TO GO NOW NOW NOW.Are you actually eleven years old (from your username)? If so, well done for posting on here, and no doubt you aren’t going to be reading this for a few hours yet, but anyway….
Paul Jewell is good at bringing teams of misfits and no-marks up to dine at the ‘big house’, but is lost when it comes to keeping them there, or working with the higher profile players. We have gone way beyond Jewell’s capabilities, and if Martinez ever goes, I’d look no further than Holloway.
Jewell is the last person you’d want to bring in.

I’d love to see what Holloway could do at a club like ours. Let him have his fledgling season with the current crop, and if we’re still here for our 7th season let him have a crack at it. He’s a cracking personality and tactically he’s sound.
15 August 2010 at 3:24 am #42615Pelican you mentioned “homegrown from the area”! Hardly anything to do with the new ruling so that’s a poor excuse.
Nevertheless we agree on the youth setup at least, or lack of it. :)

Oh snap!
Alright then… by “area” I meant Lancashire?
I certainly didn’t mean Honduras or any Latin American countries, “that’s for sure”.
