Too early to judge anything and not enough time for GW to make wholesale changes in the training session before match day. We may see some better tweaks on Saturday.
Thought we had a decent spell in the first half where we kept possession and did pass backwards, but at a more crisp pace than normal; which did make us look half dangerous.
Owen Dale & Rankin were both woeful.Roll on Saturday.
5 March 2025 at 5:34 pm #205292Rankin was absolute garbage, lived up to his name. – 1 trick pony – dips his shoulders a couple of times, attempts to beat his man and gets tackled .. and repeat all game, may as well have played with 10 men – what on earth did Chelsea ever see in him…
5 March 2025 at 6:08 pm #205294Last night they Set up 4-6-0 play for a 0-0, the players and Whelan didn’t want to stitch Maloney up with a win.
Showing solidarity to their ex manager by pissing around, at 0-0 Whelan takes off Taylor with a knock Cal Mac on the bench what does he do puts a defender on (Robinson) fuck the travelling fans or going for the win.
The players showing their true colours now, they’ve had such an easy ride under Maloney they are shitting themselves and sulking because they’ll be out of their comfort zone, hopefully the new guy sorts this shit show out pronto.
Lazy bastards!
Fuck the EFL
5 March 2025 at 8:13 pm #205295Actually felt sorry for Mansfield, they proverbially p***ed all over us big time and should have won comfortably and must have been wondering how they didn’t get the points given their dominance.
Our players seemed disinterested and to not even muster up one shot on target was an absolute disgrace and unacceptable for a Wigan Athletic team.
At least Maloney had some influence in that he occasionally came up with a victory here and there but those tactics and the overall performance was the worst I have seen for some time.
Whelan might end up the manager , cheap option which no doubt may happen.
No investment, fire sales of the best players , no quality and now no manager.
Not good5 March 2025 at 11:41 pm #205300Truth be known, we’ve been especially shite since we lost Matt Smith to injury and then soon after Asgaard went as well. Lost two of our best players there. Darcy is league 2 at best. Dale isn’t amazing either.
I also think Jonny Smith is probably our best player now. But never seems to finish a game if he starts. It’s a big comparison I know, but he’s the nearest thing we’ve got to an Andy Liddell. Can score or get something from nothing.
6 March 2025 at 12:58 am #205301I’ve renamed him Jony 90 he plays 90 minutes a week 60mins 1 game 30mins the other. I’m not sure why he can’t play 90 then say bench the game after.
Now onto Owen Dale, he’s absolutely useless.
Can’t go last anyone,
Poor control,
Can’t tackle,
He needs dropping and never using again. Stick Robinson left back Mellish left mid. At least Mellish can tackle and actually runs at players with the ball.Darcy ? Sooner have Darcy Bussell. Again another playing a league or 2 above his level.
Norburn ?
Way way way past his sell by date.
Rankine, zero trick pony, again I’d say he’s national league if he’s lucky.
Now I’m not been disrespectful to these lads but their all batting a level above their capabilities and skillset.
Look Glenn Whelans played 610 games nearly 300 in the Prem, not many can say that. He’ll know this straight away and believe me when I say, he’ll not fancy the job one iota. It’s like sticking Lewis Hamilton in a Ford Escort and saying: “Bring back the constructors trophy please pal”.
There’s levels at football and the vast majority of our squad are way out their depth in L1, we can see it, the manager can but more worryingly the owner can see it.
Danson’s gambled, saved millions and sacked a manager for something he’s partly to blame for.
Now I read the clubs in no rush to replace Maloney so they’ll take their time when there’s obvious out of work candidates all sat at home in their arms chairs pointing at the Tele SSN shouting “Me …Me !!”.
And why are they going to take their time?, I’ll tell you why:-
Their hunting for someone who stupid and cheap enough to take on a squad clearly well below L1 level then they’ll want him to add players for zero pounds and on super low wages and get them to challenge for promotion.
Rioch and Danson’s son better have red glass slippers on to make a few wishes because if they think that squad or similar level players can get us up they need a a Big Ben head wobble of the ferocious kind, it ain’t never gonna happen.Tickle will be gone in the summer and Carragher Millar not far behind. Any new potential manager needs a big chat with Maloney first he’ll tell you the script.
Were a club were the owner lacks ambition, his onus is rugby it’s as clear as day.
Mark my words, once Danson’s gets his £5-£6million windfall from the Robinson/Fulham sale the for sale sign will go up.
He got what he wanted,
The ground6 March 2025 at 6:44 am #205303Agree with you Cup Winners
Still some happy clappers that can’t see that6 March 2025 at 11:31 am #205304I also fully agree, Cup Winners.
The appointment will definitely tell us if the owner has ambitions. If it’s Lowe, Evatt, Rooney or another outside entity, it will suggest they will be backed in the summer.
However, if it’s someone with connections already to us, such as Richardson, Cook, Warne, Boyce, Atkins, it will seem like we’ve gone for a cheaper option who won’t be backed financially and will be on a ‘make do and mend on the cheap’ mission.
I don’t think Cook will be interested, and word was Richardson was sacked after a bit of a fall out over lack of financial backing from the Bahrain lot. He would be taking on a team that’s arguably WORSE OFF than the Administration team.
The appointment made will go a long way to either get people renewing season tickets, or have them still staying away…and maybe more besides.
6 March 2025 at 1:44 pm #205305That’s the point I’ve been making to anyone who’d listen. No appointment showing ambition……no season tickets for me and I’d imagine that would apply to a lot of us. If they think waiting till summer after we’ve all early bird renewed then trying to sting us by then announcing Mr Cheap and cheerful then they’d better wake up quickly. The theory about him getting the ground ,any potential Robinson cash then bailing out really is worst case scenario. Be no takers for us then as what would there be to buy ? ..Frightening prospect but I personally don’t think that would really benefit the owner ….having just the slutch rats continually Hemorrhaging cash in a half empty stadium wouldn’t be a sustainable business model…….but then again I certainly wouldn’t dismiss it.!!
6 March 2025 at 1:57 pm #205306Also can’t understand some saying give Whelan till end of season……No,No….never mind the potential relegation fight…..we need someone in ASAP to analyse the shit show of a squad in REAL competitive fixtures, not pre season knock abouts. 10 or 12 games to test some of these recruits, maybe motivate them and then come summer he has a plan as to where we need to be in August. All good and well if he gets full support from the owner and that my friend really is the billion dollar question.
6 March 2025 at 2:03 pm #205307In the meantime, the usual deafening silence from Danson ..
