None of us expected much last night. The game has now gone so we can move on. The next 3 games are very crucial.
15 December 2016 at 1:38 pm #153166Wasn’t it said before the Derby game “the next three games are crucial”?
Can’t go on like this mate!
Fuck the EFL
15 December 2016 at 1:57 pm #153170They were dire…including Villa Saturday and up to Griggs header it was 158 mins without a shot on goal.Never seen passing as crap in years and caught in possession constantly.”Next 3 games are important” state the obvious why don’t you.Christ the last 3 were too and nil goals ,nil points. The first half was painful to watch ,embarrassing at times and anyone who has watched us recently must be on the happy tabs if they can wrench any positives from that mound of tripe.Season so far is a pantomime form the pre-season recruiting to last night it has been a horror show and I for 1 cannot see this manager pulling us out of the bottom 3.All those who think the transfer window will come to the rescue then you really are straw clutching.
15 December 2016 at 2:13 pm #153171Last night it was corner shop nil Tesco two or piggy bank nil Bank of England 2. Same on Saturday at Villa. We went with two different approaches and last night was far more positive than the defensive approach at Villa. We were very unlucky in both games Derek.
Newcastle did not look Greed League quality at all but their second hoof ball goal was a killer. Newcastle reminded me a little of Rosler Latics tactics in his first season. Hope the cocky gets run out of steam like we did.15 December 2016 at 2:36 pm #153174Its got fuck all to do with money how much Newcastle and Villa have spent we have always been in a different league throughout the clubs proud successful history. This is about piss poor managers sucked in by the Continental infestation of the Premier league and its cockeyed formations. When we were relegated from the greed league we should have gone back to basics. Instead we have persevered with this wing back one up top bullshit when we don’t have players skill full enough to play the roles. I’m sick of people thinking that 4-4-2 is just about having twin strikers. It isn’t we are expecting below average players to be Kenny Sansome one minute and Chris Waddle the next. Drop this wing back dross and put the lads back in their comfort zone and defend as a four. We have basic players so we should be playing it basic and until someone at the club has the balls to admit we are no longer at that level this nightmare will continue. Cloughie always said it was a simple game, not any more. Its in our DNA to battle against the odds and we are the greatest club at doing it so lets get back to being Latics and drop this pathetic boring tactic of trying to keep up with the Joneses.
15 December 2016 at 3:27 pm #153175How odd. Earlier this season when people were calling for Caldwell to be sacked a lot of people said the extra money we had compared to the rest of the division was the reason we won the league and not the manager. Now we’ve got the 2nd lowest budget in the league it seems that the money spent by other massively wealthy clubs is irrelevant.

Now we’ve got the 2nd lowest budget in the league it seems that the money spent by other massively wealthy clubs is irrelevant.Otter, the money spent by the big hitters is relevant to them not us. We have never competed budget wise even in the Prem. What we had was good scouts picking up players from Countries untapped before and getting them on the cheap. We had a good squad and good manager neither world beaters but worked well together. We played to our strengths not to the trend which seems to be the case now. We now need the manager to buck the trend and whilst we haven’t got any quality players lets keep it simple and to hell with what is deemed best by experts and pundits high on the Premier league.
15 December 2016 at 4:56 pm #153178And in the Prem we struggled every year bar 2 really. The first one we ran on adrenaline, and when that ran out we tailed off. The other season was when Bruce was in charge and we gave him plenty money to spend. That’s no coincidence. That’s why money is relevant to us and not just the Newcastles and Villas of the division.
15 December 2016 at 4:57 pm #153179The continental infestation of our game is the most accurate description of what has ruined our game. Superb I love that and so bloody true. It’s square pegs and round holes. They don’t go.

Drop this wing back dross and put the lads back in their comfort zone and defend as a four.Last night we played with a back 4, we didn’t have any wing backs.
Newcastle have better players than us but on the whole ours ran their socks off and competed. Benitez made (expensive) changes in the 2nd half because we were on top and we were fairly unlucky not to get back onto level terms.
I quite enjoyed last night’s game and came away thinking that at least we had a go. If Grigg’s 2nd half header had gone in we could well have had at least a point.I also like 4-4-2 but didn’t have an issue with us winning the league last season playing with wing backs and one up front.
15 December 2016 at 5:45 pm #153183Newcastle are the best side i’ve seen at the DW this season, but we gave them a run for their money and came unstuck by our own incompetency… Again!
The fact is it’s quality of player more than tac tics that is our problem. Their first goal was a terrible one to concede, but good run & finish by Diame (combined with a good give & go move). The second came about from really poor decision making by Kellett…Upfront for us, just one shot on target. Players are really beginning to look uneasy to me, long season ahead!

But surely jimmy therein lies the problem. Your spot on we simply don’t have the quality anymore so we have to utilise what we have and keep it as simple as possible. Wing backs and lone strikers are probably the hardest positions for outfield players and are specialist roles. Great wing backs are rare as hens teeth and the lone striker is so reliant on his midfield being up to the mark. Its unfair to expect players to revel in these positions when they are lacking in the talent required to make them work as designed.
15 December 2016 at 7:48 pm #153185So do you want us to play the old fashioned British way or to find new untapped foreign countries for players which you attribute a lot of our past success to?
You can’t have it both ways.
