Johnny King, without a doubt. Proper legend; wish we had him now.
15 January 2011 at 11:49 pm #55586In my time probably either Greame Jones or Tony Dinning.
16 January 2011 at 12:08 am #55592Alan Johnson.
Graham Barrow? Had a run in with Southampton ‘hard man’ Mark Dennis in the cup game in the 80’s (86 i think) and offered to meet him in the car park for a ‘straightener’.
Imagine that kind of thing happening now? Sky Sports would deploy a film crew and reporter to the car park, no doubt.
I’d say Harry Lyon must’ve been pretty hard to bust his ankle badly and then go off and slug some whiskey, before returning to the pitch and scoring a hat trick.
16 January 2011 at 12:30 am #55596Have to agree with Dave it has to be Harry Lyon.
From my era though the legendary Bobby Campbell. He put every keeper in the back of the net.
There was some legendary stories about Bobby like he used to spark up a cig at half time & he bumped a mini out of the way in the car park at Springfield Park.
16 January 2011 at 1:04 am #55610Scott Green. Only player I ever saw being booked while warming up as a sub.
16 January 2011 at 1:08 am #55612Scott Green. Only player I ever saw being booked while warming up as a sub.I remember that. Was it at Reading in the play offs, or am I getting my incidents mixed up? (Think I am)
A Reading fan ran on and had a go at him, didn’t he?
All those balloons all over the pitch……sigh. Ah well….
16 January 2011 at 1:46 am #55625I think it was at the JJB but can’t remember the opposition.
We were winning and when the ball came to him as he was warming up he prevented the attacking player from getting the ball for the throw. Led to a scuffle resulting in Greeny getting booked even though he wasn’t playing :D
16 January 2011 at 1:41 pm #55688Scott Green. Only player I ever saw being booked while warming up as a sub.Johnny King got booked at Lancaster City, before kick off, for hiding the ref’s boots ( J.A Kaye – remember him ). He then got a yellow in the game and was duly sent off !
16 January 2011 at 1:46 pm #55689Billy Sutherland, hard as nails.I remember that Greeny incident as well.
16 January 2011 at 2:01 pm #55690Carl Bradshaw was a pretty hard. Geoff Horsfield aswell.
16 January 2011 at 2:12 pm #55691For me it has to be Graham Barrow hard as a coffin nail that mon.
