Hope to goodness Lincoln can over come the Chelsea kids…. but this is interesting.
The kids of Chelski earn 6 times the Licoln pros.

FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

Why have we let Reece James go to Chelsea?

        Two things strike me:
        1. That even League 2 players aren’t badly paid, and
        2. “Signed age 6” is just obscene. That’s the age of my grandson and he enjoys just playing football. 6 years old is just far too young to be contractually tied to a professional club.

Callum Hodson-Odoi……. £20,000 a week at 17 years of age, ridiculous.

Totally agree. A local kids football club was bragging a couple of weeks ago that one of their under 6’s had just been invited to train at Man United. Now, I’ve 2 lads who are decent players. One is 11 and one is 9. Both have flirted with playing with teams. But both have been put off with the absolute bull#### that even surrounds local kids football. You have to sign up standing orders to pay £20 a month. You have to do this, you have to do that. I’ve seen 10 year olds wearing £100 boots… Ridiculous. I’ve seen 9 year olds turning up with 4 different pairs of boots. The clubs even buy their own ground now and build artificial pitches! It’s all a little bit too serious and pompous for my liking.

When I was young, and I’m sure you will agree. You tipped up a couple of quid subs on a Sunday and it was a dive in to get the best of the kit. These days it’s all flashy and even in local kids football, it’s becoming money orientated, rather than fun orientated. They brag that the team will “go on a tournament holiday to flamingo land” in the summer. Yes, but you’ve bloody well paid for it anyway.

Its all too fussy and complicated and neither of my lads are overfussed about playing for a team.

You are only contracted to a club at the ripe old age of ‘under 9’ when competitive academy football begins. At this point up to the age of high school you can leave one club to play for another but there will be a reimbursement of 3K for every year the boy has been at the selling club in compensation. This rises to as much as 40K per year from the age of 11.

Grassroots football has changed dramatically over the years. Very rarely do you see lads playing football in parks or on the streets and with ‘no ball’ signs everywhere and the media suggesting there are paedos on every street corner this is unlikely to change anytime soon.

With most local teams run by parents and volunteers I’m guessing it’s hard to be too critical. Local grass pitches are generally woeful, 4G pitches cost up to 50 quid an hour so unfortunately the clubs need to charge accordingly. A sad state of affairs but sadly the money never seems to come down the pyramid to support the roots in ensuring sport is available to all.

Sounds like you’ve been put off there more than them. Not sure an 11 or 9 year old would understand or care about any of that.

You’re right though it is a joke. Winstanley have bought Little Lane somehow and built 5-a-side pitches. No more going for a kick about with your mates on the field.

My nephew’s lad was training with Man City amd Man Utd, he’s 10. At Man City they come out to music in lines then do the shaking hands bit. The parents aren’t allowed to shout out to their kids it’s a circus.
He ended up signing for Bury and at the tender age of 10, has a £6000 transfer fee.
Luckily his parents can afford to take him places other parents can’t so that’s the end of their careers.

My quid on this is that everyone thinks it is a disgrace, unless it happens to your own kid, at which point very few say no and most get very excited.

                      Probably right there dnr.

I agree with the parents not being able to shout things jr. Thats what coaches are for.

Fair enough, but a bit of encoragement from a parent to their child?, we shout at the pros, man on!, ger it in row z! etc etc. Same thing only more grown up. Far too regimental at an early age for me, and the stats prove that very few of these 10 year olds make it their teens before being fired off. So the system is not working, even for the big clubs who have the cream of the crop to pick from.

I think there a rule that academies have to recruit the children from within 1 hours drive from the academy. Manchester City are flooded with youngsters from all over the world recruited from their centres worldwide.
They get around this by literaly moving families from all over the world to Manchester.
Got to agree with everyones sentiments on this one and also yes those Lincln wages are massive compared to the real world but the Chelsea brats wages are just wrong.
Thank goodness that Lincoln won the shoot out. Well done and good luck to them.

I guess, but kids are more likely to take their parents on than their coach i would say and plenty parents would try telling little jonny what to do as opposed to encouraging him.

Given players produced through our own academy I do wonder whether it’s even worth having one. Notice Huddersfield have closed there’s as have Brentford as big clubs just pinch better players anyway.
