I’d certainly enjoy a trip to Belgium. It’s near, it’s compact and it’s got a good tradition of football. It’s also got a fantastic variety of beer.
No Belgian team qualifies direct for the Group Stage. Racing Genk beat Cercle Brugge in the Belgian cup final last week. But the system to choose the other teams is rather complicated. The league title pool is very tight. Anderlecht and Club Brugge are in the Champions League places – Zulte-Waregem lie third and in a Europa League place.
The final Europa League place will be decided in a play off between the team placed fourth in the title pool and the winner of the play off between Leuven and Gent; Gent (the Buffaloes) lead 4-1 after the first leg. Currently, Racing Genk lie fourth in the title pool, followed by Standard Liege and Lokeren.

Martinez’s first game for Wigan in the PL 2-0 win away at …….Aston Villa.
Final game in the PL for Wigan? A home game against …….Aston Villa!!
Ironic?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm ;)

Erm, no, that’s just coincidence. It would have been ironic if they had beaten us 2-0 with Jason Koumas and Hugo Rodallega the scorers.
20 May 2013 at 12:48 am #113932One thing I did find a little strange was our goal coming during the minutes applause for Petrov, just like Wolves goal coming in the last game last season during our minutes applause on 8 mins for 8 years in the PL.

Now that is ironic.
We were wondering last year what odds we’d have got for a Wolves goal on 8 min. Wish I’d thought of that this year – could’ve made a few quid!

Alas, the ultimate irony was not to be:
First game in the Premiership, first on MOTD (weren’t we?)
Last (current) game in the Premiership……second last on MOTD…
