I think calling that performance adequate is mental talk JR no matter what the outcome is.
If we stood by the team last season on the fact that good performances were not getting results I think the team saturday should be in for the criticism they are due on the back of a bad performance!
Joel – Looked confident and decent distribution.
Stam – I used to think he was shit but he just looked like he couldnt care less (praying we sign stones or anyone!)
Golobart – was okay although should of had blatent penalty given against him.
Figueroa – The only player on the pitch who you could tell was a level above the rest.
Mustoe – Did well.
Gomez – Looked his usual self neither good or bad.
Espinoza – I like him looked nervous at times but he isnt scared to hit a pass down the wing etc.
Fyvie – No range or cutting edge to his passing we have enough ball movers thanks.
Mcmanaman – did well in first half but its the least I would expect of him.
Dicko – Did okay and for better finishing could of had a goal.
Henriquez – No point in judging him on the back of another non service! All in all they should of had a penalty and if they got it I would have fancied them to go on and get the winner.
I will back Martinez to the point of relegation for all he does for us as a club but his team selection in this cup is not good enough.
It is all good and well saying he wants to try out younger players but take a look at the team V Nottingham Forest at the start of the season
Wigan Athletic
26 Al Habsi
03 Alcaraz
21 Ramis
23 Stam
31 Figueroa
06 Jones
07 Crusat
08 Watson
14 Gomez
22 Beausejour
19 BoselliAnd then against West Ham
26 Al Habsi
05 Caldwell
21 Ramis
23 Stam
24 Lopez
31 Figueroa
06 Jones
16 McArthur
15 McManaman
19 Boselli
32 MiyaichiI really dont see what has changed since he picked those teams.
Its Bobbys job to pick the team and I trust him but if he puts the same team out again against Huddersfield/Leicester and they play as poorly as against Macclesfield I will not be a happy bunny.
We have a genuine chance of going all the way IMO.

I agree with you Salford.
As I was coming away from the ground, I was very relieved and glad that we’d actually managed to scrape the win.
If he turns out that team and they play exactly the same against Leicester (for example), it would be a long ol’ game.
The only part I disagree with is..
Gomez – Looked his usual self neither good or bad.
I think you’re over-praising him there.. I thought, once again, he looked absolutely terrible.

Those two teams were a Premier League and a Championship team, and I’m pretty sure Martinez didn’t want to go so easily because that would have been of no benefit whatsoever to anyone.
Had we met them at this stage of the cup – who knows what team he’d have selected.
Realistically, the teams selected to play against Bradford, Bournemouth and Macclesfield should have easily beaten them.

I’m with you Standish and 100% agree the team put out should be good enough.
But as I said if its a similar specification team out against Championship opposition next round and the performance is of a similar ilk I wont be happy ( I am sure Roberto wont lose any sleep).
I also personally think injuries have been a large part in his decision to field “weaker” teams in recent cup games but I personally would like to see us push for it just a little bit.
28 January 2013 at 8:47 pm #101507We certainly have an excellent chance to make the quarter finals for only the second time and a good chance to make Wembley.
I’d like to see a team like this if all fit:
Robles
Caldwell
Golobart
LopezBoyce
Espinoza
McArthur/McCarthy
FigueroaHenriquez
Gomez/new signing

McManamanI think that is the team that Martinez thinks will see us in to the end of the season. Maybe with Alcaraz involved and of course Kone when he get home.
I am very happy when I don’t see Beausejour in there as I think he needs to work out that we cannot carry him for the 2 or 3 crosses he might put in…. Mustoe did more on Saturday than our Chilean friend has done all season :ohmy:FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

You could also put into the agenda that those teams above played in the early cup rounds before we got the injury list of all injury lists at one stage we had Ben Watson at center back and even david Jones played in the back line
29 January 2013 at 4:40 pm #101555PS, Gary Caldwell was stood next to us on the terraces with his sons (& brother I think). Did anybody else see him.
He was a few steps down from us – so I presume you were too
Must have been, but as i don’t think i know you wouldn’t recognise you (might know the face from Springfield park days?). Too many bob hats, hoods en scarfs to recognise anybody that day really.

We certainly don’t do things the easy way do we…
Glad we are through, but it doesn’t matter who we play we just can’t create chances. I can count on one hand how many attempts on goal we had today… Sh !te considering Macc are a non league side!!Norwich went out to Luton today who are also a non league side. Go on the canaries board and see what they are saying.
The display today was shall we say “adequate”, the pluses being young Jordan Mustoe, whose first half display was outstanding , Golobart again apart from a few hiccups looked assured and was actually marshalling the defence quite well. I’ll reserve my judgement on Robles till after I’ve seen him in a few EPL games, but is kicking and general distribution was very good. The signing of a new contract by Macmanaman as certainly geed him up as he put in a decent shift on the left wing and skinned Jackson on numerous occasions and he is supposed to be one of their key players.
The negatives were once again Stam, the lad just cant defend and it hurts me to say it but Gomez, the lad just didn’t seem interested in the second half and gave the ball away at least 10 or 12 times.
Having said all that look, this is only the second time wave reached the 5th round of the FA cup in our history, so I think its time to celebrate not find faults in our display.
For those who had a pint in the Railway, £2.10 for a pint of bitter and £1.00 for a pie, fekin magic!
Don’t forget to watch the draw tomoz gang, cos we are in it and a lot of clubs arn’t. goodpost[/quote]
I apologize for the delay in responding, but I agree with what you say.
If we are lucky in the next round, jammy in the quarters, clear 6 off the line and win the semi, and then actually go to Wembley and win the cup in the final against the run of play, nobody in years to come will say “That bloody Wigan side were jammy when they won the cup in 2013” The record books will not mention any luck at all.
No, it’ll just say “FA Cup Winners 2013- Wigan Athletic”.
I just hope we don’t become a ‘shock’ ourselves in the next round. Maybe now’s the time for RM to take the cup a little more seriously. A lot of big sides have gone out and we have a really good chance of making the Quarters at least this season now.
