A rare and heartfelt post triggered some odd comments and made me feel quite uncomfortable. There’s a book by Nick Hornby about a bloke who’s obsessed with a website which constantly discusses the tiny details of the life of a faded rock star. It’s called Juliet Bravo – worth a read lads. The people who posted on the site were a set of rather sad characters who sent futile messages into the ether, engaged in tragic banter with their “friends”, scored points and made mad claims. It was clear their careers were going nowhere, their marriages were collapsing -or they never actually had been in a relationship- and they didn’t actually do anything of consequence.
I’m relieved to think that none of that is true of me but i suspect I’ve strayed into a similar world. Many of you are no doubt decent lads and your lives are fine.
However, I leave your world – and suggest you think about your involvement. Life’s a bit short.
By the way……. A set of half hearted millionaires performing sp badly in front of a few Wiganners who had paid £30 for tickets and then had the performance ridiculed in the national press -again- was far worse than watching journey men lose at Frickley with a font size 6 results in the Mirror being the only coverage.
Goodbye – and good luck. I will not set foot on here again.

2 November 2010 at 9:05 pm #50048Wasn’t Juliet Bravo a dodgy 80s police show… Think you’re thinking of Hornby’s latest, Juliet Naked. (Sh1te book by the way – although there is a reference to Wigan Casino, so not all bad).
Bye.
2 November 2010 at 9:42 pm #50057You are a drama queen of the highest order. And you accuse other people of taking these sites too seriously???
Oh, and you’re right – my life is fine, thanks.
2 November 2010 at 10:20 pm #50063if this message board or any message board affects your feelings in the way you describe it then it is for the best that you do not bother posting on here or any other message board that gets you down because if it gets you down so much then it will keep getting you down even more than it is getting you down at the moment my suggetion is unplug the computer for a week or so but hide the power lead out of harms way just to be on the safe side and lock all sharp objects in a safe place and hide all medicines so you will not find them and if you have any smiths cds then i suggest you put them with the other stuff i suggested you hide away earlier but try and be strong and look for the strong things in you life that will make you better about yourself and please do not do any self harming as it hurts :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
2 November 2010 at 10:43 pm #50066i have thought long and hard about makins direction – i feel like i’m swimming against a tide and question why so few of us are swimming ‘upstream’ depite the dross served up by this manager and his staff.
so i have come to a rather monumental decision that has been influenced by the insults non conformists like me suffer on this site for voicing an opinion that goes against the grain,so just like makin2 i am announcing on this public forum –I’M STAYING

Oldham away pre-season … Amaya !
2 November 2010 at 11:30 pm #50076LMB mate, dont stop believing your oppinion, just because you are not being brainwashed like some on here into thinking that Martinez can manage. No other manager at any club anywhere else in the world would still be in a job after some of the disasters he has steered us through and as for slagging Makin off anybody who says they were not embarrassed by the 9-1 at Spurs or the Notts Co debacle are talking rot.

3 Bradford City H 1-2 2,070 Pilling
7 Preston North End A 0-2 4,482[/quote]i am glad you brought this up edinburgh – yes that was bad, the first 20 results in our one and only relegation year, which could be said was our worst ever year.
as you chose to highlight this era i picked a few stats out of it to compare them with stephens bit -just as you was doing.
the highest defeat was 4-0, no 5-0’s,6 ,8 or 9-1’s,
we won 4,drew 5,and lost 11 in that period – scored 19 goals in 20 games at 0.95 per game, while we conceeded 34 goals at 1.7 goals a game -within that list we got a draw in the first leg and lost the second against first division ipswich -there was no embarrassing maulings(twice)by a team 2 divisions below us like against notts county or 4-1 thrashing by one a division below.as well as 2 games off your results list being against a top division team, out of the 16 league games, 1 was against the eventual champions, 3 against the play off qualifiers and a further 4 games against the top ten finishers.
so lets compare our worst ever season with our run under martinez,
we lose just as many – we conceed masses more and we dont score half as much.
makes you wonder why the “dark side” as they are colloquially know voices their concerns! -
