1992 was clearly relegation form.
Last season (and so far this) was manifestly not.
We can all manipulate and interpret data.
Lies, damn lies, etc…?

as you know griff data and interpretating it is all about probability and forcasting – not manipulating it,
surely that is what any good sales/purchasing executive, which i assume you have daily dealings with, does best.if you look at the data and probability outlook – wafc and martinez wont have many futures dealers flocking to get a piece of the action.
3 November 2010 at 4:47 pm #50132Going back to your original melodrama; is it because people didn’t agree that the worst you have seen was Craven Cottage (after watching Latics since the sixties). Is this the
rare and heartfelt post triggered some odd comments and made me feel quite uncomfortable

I had better not mention the time I was at Chesterfield feeling chuffed as a butty becasue we were 3-1 up with ten mins to go, only to have the journey home under a cloud after losing 4-3 (1986ish), I felt worse that day than Craven Cottage….. and by no means was that the worst ever.
Anyway I stray, my point is that there wasn’t anything in that thread that really should have bothered you, unless you take offense at being asked to have a reality check.
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

have a lie down, a nice cup of camomile tea to calm you down, then read again what i have written,so you then may understand it and come back with a meaningful response.

Whether you manipulate data or not rather depends on what business you’re in, I would guess.
I’m not much of a numbers or stats man; I like to think I have more of an instinctive and creative bent to me.
However, I played the statsfacts game for 5 minutes during my lunch break.
It is a fact that 92-93 was relegation form because we got relegated.
It is a fact that we have 10 points from 10 games which at that rate would give us 38 points at the end of the season.
It is a fact that, during our time in the Premier League, only one team gaining 38 points has ever been relegated.
It is therefore a reasonable interpretation of the facts to forecast that 38 points will be earned by Wigan Athletic this season and that, once again, there will be at least 3 teams that do not achieve that mark and so come next season, Wigan Athletic will again be a Premier League club.

I have read it a few times now, had an Earl Grey and I will still ask the same question. Which Clubs would Futures Dealers touch anyway.
You used a bad analogy to try and be clever, you are again slagging down Wigan Athletic and Roberto Martinez (this time without really thinking it through) and I would at least like you to do things comparably.
Edit: as griff just pointed out, at this time we are showing the form that would historically keep us up, albeit just. If you put an iota of the effort into getting behind the Club as you do putting it down, you might just reduce those stress levels a bit.

3 November 2010 at 10:08 pm #50143the highest defeat was 4-0, no 5-0’s,6 ,8 or 9-1’s,
Might I also point out that we weren’t playing teams of the standard of competing for European trophies that season – or is that too simplistic :?:

your spot on there – might i also point out that we didnt get beat 4-0 by the bottom club -failed to win a game against 2 of the bottom 3 – hammered 3 times in the cup games by lower league teams, before you correct me – the 2-2 draw at notts county was a travesty we didnt deserve.
