I really wish he’d stick to what he says – he’s beginning to be a joke figure

I agree with uncle Dave on this one, Marlon has done his time and is now a free man!

I would agree with the term done his time and is now a free man but like other lags being released they wont be walking into a £15 grand plus a week job

I can’t see anything wrong with what Whelan has said here. Basically he’s saying he was justifiably emotional when he fired King, has tempered this now that he’s served his time, and has enforced the statement that King will never play for Wigan again.

The only thing I can’t agree with from what Whelan said is about he and Bruce not knowing about King’s criminal record when we signed him. I knew, so can’t believe they didn’t.

I think what Whelan means is he didnt know the severity of the crime and that King was going to prison

The problem with Whelan – and I actually really like the man – is that he speaks like I speak in the pub. He says what he thinks and is fully committed to it at the time that he says it. Then, later, he changes his mind and is fully commited to that view as well.

When I do this in the pub it doesn’t matter because a) I’m just a no-mark and b) no-one is usually listening and can’t remember me even being in the pub 9 months ago, let alone what I actually said.

When he says things, is in the national media and therefore in the public domain and people don’t forget. Whether he is right or wrong or you disagree with his opinion is irrelevant; people just see him as a daft, inconsistent, cantankerous old fool. Which he certainly is not.

I’m inclined to agree with what you say except that people who think and act in this way do not tend to become self-made millionaires.

There are plenty of millionaires out there. They just don’t all grab the nearest mic and blurt out the first thing in their heads all the time.

I have no problem with most of what he says, I just think that sometimes it would be better if he engaged brain first or, better still, said nowt sometimes.
