Although we didn’t deserve to win, I have to comment on the sending off:
- IMO a poor decision by the referee; and at the very worst should have been a free kick on the edge of the box & a yellow card.
- If there was any measurable contact it started 2 yds outside the box.
- There player went down easier that Monica Lewinsky.
- Tickle was favourite to get to the ball first, in any case.
- So why did their player not get red carded when he clearly tripped Macca in the box. Not even a yellow card.
All in all, a frustrating afternoon.
He did go down soft but it’s no different than say a Cal Mac would do in his position.
I’m more bothered about how the Hemel Hempstead player who put the ball over wasn’t closed down by 2 Wigan players and he had enough time to dunk a cheeky chip over the top.
Then Smiths unawareness and he let the player peel off his shoulder then decided to shirt tug. The player was clever enough to take it into the box.
Another thing. I lost count on how many simple 5-10yard passes went astray, basic simple unchallenged passes.
If we can’t even get the bread & butter footballing right everything else doesn’t happen. We have an absolute total lack of build up play with midfield players interacting, our build up play consist of,
Defenders passing to each other,
To a midfielder,
He’ll look up then go back to a defender who’ll go long.
Or it goes long to Saydee Mullin or Costelloe who gives it away. One man and his dog knows Mullins game is NOT standing on the halfway line 30 yard out accepting a ball and with no support i.e. Saydee 20 yard away. He’s a player who finds space in the box from anything put in and scores
We have no one to put a foot on the ball in the middle as a king pin just to keep it moving, link play.
I don’t blame Lowe on the whole for the choice of player as he has a poor pool to choose from but yesterday we had 10 men and 2 up front for 30 minutes and Saydee was gassed.
We had no forward on the bench in a game that could have and did go for another 30 minutes.
Based on, we only had 2 forwards (Asamoah Costelloe both missing) in the match day squad and both forwards started in a potential 120 minute game was a huge Lowe mistake.
Stuff tactics 2 up top circumstances should have determined team selection and formation. For me he should have gone with 1 up top say Mullin then when Smith got the red midfielder on then when Mullin had run himself into the ground which he did bring on Saydee.
This 2 up top is failing based on the styles of all 3 which none complement the other.
Lowes concentrating too much focus on pleasing but right now ? Na 1 up top till he finds the right partner for whoever
