21 April 2010 at 1:43 pm #30259Well done moderators ! Gotta keep you lads on your toes eh !!
I aim to please…….. ;)
21 April 2010 at 2:07 pm #30261I didn’t see SKY’s coverage on Sunday (well I’ve seen the highlights but not their full game coverage) so aint gonna comment on what Merson said on Sunday
However I have heard him say similar things on the score updates/final score thing they have on on match days. Similar in that we can’t try & out football teams because we don’t have the personnel to do it
In that respect he’s only saying what countless people on here (me included) have said all season & (as odd as it may sound considering we’ve beaten Arsenal, Chelsea & Villa) he’s absolutely right IMO21 April 2010 at 2:22 pm #30262I didn’t see SKY’s coverage on Sunday (well I’ve seen the highlights but not their full game coverage) so aint gonna comment on what Merson said on SundayHowever I have heard him say similar things on the score updates/final score thing they have on on match days. If Merson was on Sky slagging Bolton for being a long-ball hoofing team who should be trap-doored straight through the divisions he would become an instant legend on here. Le Tissier gets the same treatment but more often than not he talks sense.
Merson is paid to be ‘interesting’ and ‘knowledgable’ and in that respect he is less bland than a lot of them. However, his inability to string a sentence together and failure to be funny really winds me up.
But you’re right, he ain’t saying anything that isn’t really true.

Yer jokin arnt yer?
You could print Le Tissiers knowledge on Wigan Athletic on the back of a postage stamp.
Whenever he has to comment on us he trots out the same old shyte `rugby town`,`poor crowds`.
No matter who we are playing he tips us to lose, the fella is a tool!
Merson is a `slightly lesser` tool!

Yes, though you beat them both hands-down on the tool scale. That said, they’ve obviously not played professional football to the same level as you, have they?
Keep going, though. You’re single-handedly proving my ‘precious’ comment in my original post
21 April 2010 at 4:00 pm #30268You dont get it do yer?
My point is they obviously never watch our games, hence some of the stupid comments,
Add yerself t`tool list an all,yer up there with best of us!

No, I don’t. I’m thick. Sorry.

And my point was that, in relation to Merson’s “they haven’t got good enough players to try to out-football teams” comment was that he was saying no more or less than many Latics fans (who do watch our games) have been saying all season – and with plenty of justification in my opinion
21 April 2010 at 8:27 pm #30289Think it was the bit where basically he said we `cant play football cos we dont have footballers` that got on peoples chunks……………
What do we do then……….play friggin rugby!
21 April 2010 at 9:02 pm #30292I was at the game on sunday and therefore did not see the coverage on sky sports. When i got back from the game, my girlfriend said that in the build up Paul Merson said we don’t deserve a football team in the premier league and basically belittled our club. I just wanted to know if anyone heard what he actually said?Doesn’t it feel great when we shut idiots up like Merson and Collymore and it makes wins like on sunday all the more special.
Doing these days Haisley?

I think his colleagues felt a bit embarrassed for Merson. He was acting like an idiot and he’s been made to eat his words.
Bruce was a good manager but it was safety first football, Martinez needed a lot of balls to stamp his own style on Wigan and play good football. It was always going to be a tough year but I’m glad we try to play good football. I don’t care what an ex gunner drunk says.
