Went yesterday, always a ground i love going to….came away disappointed…..largely due to our midfield vacuum. Zero creativity…..Costelloe is a cracking player but high balls to him is not his game. Slide rule passes in front of him is what he needs. Only one player we have capable of complimenting Costelloe’s skill set……a player who unbelievably some posters want out the door!!!……The sooner hes back, playing 30 yds further forward than Maloney had him …..Matt Smith……oozes quality. Type of player with our budget now we wouldn’t be anywhere near affording…..and we already have him!!!!. Injuries? Yes but many players suffer that fate and his most recent one isn’t linked to last seasons.” Let him go”……..really???…..Pray tell who out there we can replace him with ??….The sooner he’s back ,the sooner we’ll see the best of Costelloe. Our lack of pace at the back was also highlighted. All in all we’ve started fine…….a couple of tweeks and we’ll not be far away. Luton,Bolton,Plymouth, Blackpool etc struggling to find their feet….we are still a work in progress so we’ve done ok up to now……just a feeling we could have really surprised everyone. Stockport a huge test next Saturday…….will hopefully see key players rested Tuesday.
24 August 2025 at 12:29 pm #205998I think the issue with M.Smith is, he has a year left and he’s becoming quite injury prone.
Yes he does have that quality about him but it needs be shown on the pitch.
Lowe is fully aware of all this and then you have the player himself, I mean, does he want to re-sign? only M.Smith knows that.
Me I would sell him but that’s currently impossible while injured so it looks like he will be here till at least Jan.
He could get fit and be the difference between a mid table spot and us nicking a play off position,
Or
He spends this season in our the physio’s room.
Me I would sell him but that’s currently an impossible task while injured so it looks like he will be here till at least Jan.
I didn’t go yesterday, but watched it at home. I’m not quite sure just yet, I can’t figure us out.
It’s a work in progress for sure. But again, Lowe showed hes not scared to make changes.within minutes Mullin misses a 1 on 1 then scores.
I don’t think it was a bad result it could have easily gone either way.
It will be interesting how we line up Tuesday and same goes for Stockport with back to back games ahead of us.
I said it before,
Were a season behind were I thought we’d be. I honestly thought we’d be up their challenging this season.
I think this will be Lowes rebuilding season then next season should be a push for promotion well all bar 3 big boys don’t drop into L1
24 August 2025 at 7:57 pm #205999I would happily take a season of consolidation this year and a slow rebuild with some progress.
That might come quickly or be slower but a push for a play off spot should be a target given how mediocre this league appears to be this season.
It has been a rollercoaster in last 25 years , 5 promotions and 5 relegations and a major trophy to boot.
Steady progress akin to season 2001-2002 when Paul Jewell started to work his magic.
I felt they played well in patches yesterday , a few errors yes but overall a reasonable performance and they showed character to grab that late goal back.
On to the two games with Stockport and Let’s hope a positive attitude in both games.Lots to be positive about.
28 August 2025 at 7:10 am #206019Well I saw a side of Matty Smith none of us have previously seen before, tenacious tackling.
Some of those tackles were done with precision to the point were one inch difference either side it’s a yellow.
I was surprised he completed a good 75 minutes which was good to see. Hopefully he can build on that and should be on the bench at least for Stockport part 2
