We have just let Chris Kirkland go and now we have only one back up keeper Mike Pollit. He has been a great servant to the club but it is a disgrace that he is still on our books as a player. He was never good enough back in the day so I’ll just keep my fingers crossed Al Habsi doesn’t get injured.

I’ll provide mine in his favour.
Everytime he was called upon he never let us down. His form kept John Filan out of the starting 11 in our first season in the premiership. His performance against Arsenal at Highbury in the semi finals arguably kept us in the game to help us reach our first major final in our history. He is by all accounts a good guy and a positve influence around the dressing room.
Show alittle bit of respect.

Agree with all of that. That first season in the Prem he was immense for us. Some folk have short memories.
26 November 2010 at 4:56 pm #51620Some folk have short memories.Or they simply haven’t got a clue what they are talking about. Thats the trouble with all these forums. Giving a public voice to those who really shouldn’t be allowed one.
26 November 2010 at 5:57 pm #51621I think this is more a case of it being seen as the wrong decision to let him go out on loan, simply because that decision was made by Martinez. Hindley has never been one to sit on the fence with his opinion of Martinez, his tactics, or some of his transfer dealings.
There’s no way Kirkland would be happy to merely sit on the bench, and I’m sure he made his feelings quite clear.
Isn’t it the case in most loan arrangements involving goalkeepers, that the player can be recalled in an emergency? So, Kirkland is kept happy playing first team football, and if the need arises, he can be brought back? Sounds an ideal arrangement to me.
26 November 2010 at 6:38 pm #51624It is an ideal arrangement, but common sense and this board membership are not always comfortable bedfellows
26 November 2010 at 7:10 pm #51626Don’t see how anyone can have an issue with Kirkland going out on loan
Both his & Bobby’s excuse for his poor form at the start of the season was niggling injuries which restricted his mobility. These have now apparently been cleared up but Kirkland is short of match practice which even keepers need
This loan spell will give him just that & if he performs well also keeps up the pressure on Al Habsi to stay on his toes (& possibly cut out the errors like at Blackburn & United). If Al Habsi gets injured in a game we have a keeper on the bench who can fill in for that match.
After the game we can also recall Kirkland & we have a keeper with the benefit of some recent match experience behind him26 November 2010 at 7:14 pm #51628Think Pollitt can still do a job if needed! .. The guy did cut me up on that roundabout when you go through Marsh Green towards Orrell or wherever it is though!
26 November 2010 at 7:36 pm #51631Can yer get `cut up` in a three wheeler?
26 November 2010 at 7:37 pm #51632Wouldn’t want Pollitt to play too many games for us at this stage of his career, but I think his presence in the squad is more about passing on experience to the younger lads than anything else.
26 November 2010 at 7:43 pm #51633Can yer get `cut up` in a three wheeler?I would assume so but I wouldn’t know as I don’t have a 3 wheeler!!
26 November 2010 at 8:30 pm #51634two wheeler?…….Raleigh Chopper maybe?

My supporting evidence is that he was on the books at United but never made the grade there. No disgrace I hear you say. But he then played all his career in the bottom two divisions most notably at Rotherham till we signed him. How much evidence do you need?

I think your thick show some respect
