Will be appearing in the Supporters Bar pre-Shrewsbury game, remember this is FREE access now (though Supporters Club Members do get free pie and peas on Boxing Day).
I will be interviewing him, so I am asking if you want to pose and questions to him through me.
More questions the better……
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
21 December 2017 at 7:34 pm #164421In retrospect, do you regret leaving us like you did? Ruining your own career in the process?
21 December 2017 at 8:27 pm #164424“Have you got your boots with you lad”
21 December 2017 at 8:47 pm #164425I wonder how many he would score if playing in this modern way without a strike partner or winger?
21 December 2017 at 11:21 pm #164428Ask him how he felt on his return to the DW when due to a sending off he was substituted before halftime ! The boos and shouts of Judas from the partisan crowd turned to laughter!

The guy who replaced him for tactical reasons did however shut us up by scoring the only goal of the game !
22 December 2017 at 1:07 am #164430I wonder how many he would score if playing in this modern way without a strike partner or winger? As a natural finisher who scored very few tap ins and could bag from anywhere, I would imagine quite a few.
22 December 2017 at 2:18 am #164431Possibly Egg but being a player who scored his goals playing in a formation with a winger and in a strike partnership and receiving lots of support and service it would be probable he wouldn’t get the game time to do that as we would go for the striker who works best on his own. He would possibly not even get into today’s starting eleven ahead of Will. Seems crazy I know but that’s the way it is these days.
22 December 2017 at 3:48 am #164432Jay, maybe ask him…
“Do you ever think back and wonder how you would have done, had you stayed and continued your partnership with Jason Roberts in the Premier League, when we finished 10th and made the Carling Cup Final? Had you stayed and scored a few goals, maybe we couldve finished even higher that season? Do you ever look back and regret leaving when you did? Surely another season and some Premier League exposure could have got you a bigger move, no disrespect to West Brom, as Manchester United were reported to be showing an interest before you left”.
22 December 2017 at 9:44 am #164434Excellent point there Vat. We did that for so many other players so well and revived the careers of more too.
22 December 2017 at 12:06 pm #164435I know you aren’t a fan of 1 up top (or 3 with a central striker as most clubs play it) but I think Duke was one of those players who if you gave him the ball 20 yards out he could do something whether he had 1, 2 or 3 men on him. Will doesn’t score many screamers and doesn’t have half the skill that Ellington had.
Obviously he thrived with having Roberts or Lidds alongside him but I’m not sure he “needed them” as such.
22 December 2017 at 1:02 pm #164436His penalties were always a bit ‘languid’
Is it true that when he took a penalty he always shut his eyes and hoped for the best !
22 December 2017 at 1:41 pm #164437Nathan was probably the most naturally gifted player I’ve seen at our club. Yes, he had an almost lackadaisical look about him, such was his confidence and ability on the ball. He was fantastic.
Not wishing to open a debate on his personal life and some decisions he made, but I honestly think he ruined his career. For a couple of seasons at Latics, he was outstanding. But then he made lifestyle changes and was never the same again.Had he stayed at Latics, and shone in that 2005/06 season, and I am sure he would have improved further, I believe he would have got a top move to one of the big 5 clubs. He didnt exactly shine at West Brom, and then went to Watford, with me telling Aidy Boothroyd (then Watford Manager) that he had signed a top player with great ability. Unfortunately, he flopped at Watford and was on a downward spiral.
He should never have left Wigan, but I also think Paul Jewell looked at some of his lifestyle choices and knew of the detrimental effect it was having, and going to have, on his performances. A year later, Jewell did similar with Jimmy Bullard as well. But thats another story.22 December 2017 at 2:05 pm #164438I know you aren’t a fan of 1 up top (or 3 with a central striker as most clubs play it) but I think Duke was one of those players who if you gave him the ball 20 yards out he could do something whether he had 1, 2 or 3 men on him. Is it the lifestyle that has affected the careers of the likes of Paul Pogba, Moussa Dembele, Riyad Mahrez, Yaya Toure, Marouane Fellaini, Mesut Ozil, Karim Benzema to name but just a few? Oh and let’s not forget one of the greatest footballers ever to grace a football pitch, Zinedine Zidane ! :)
