Ethan was pretty well behaved but didn’t really understand what was going on ! He joined in the clapping and the goal celebrations but apart from that he was more interested in what other people were doing ! The Sun didn’t help matters in the first half, being in the East Stand is a nightmare when the Sun is low like it was on Saturday !

Sympathy vote time here – but when I was little (and we are talking 1950s here) I always wanted my Dad to take me to Anfield. He always promised, but never did. I really wish he had.

Enjoy taking your kids to football.

Yes – they will get bored, want to know when it’s orange juice time, want to wander off.

But they will be so grateful later as you will have given them a life time obsession.

And if they’re not you can always leave them out of your will :)

You haven’t missed anything Garswood. I went to Anfield once in the home end to watch them lose to Leicester. Being 6ft 4″ i find it difficult to sit in stadiums as it is but at Anfield a midget would struggle for ball space. The most uncomfortable i have ever been in a stadium, And i have probably been to about half of them in the football league.

I went loads of times later on, Yosser. I used to have a Kop season ticket.

But the thing was my Dad never took me when I was a lad. And that’s what I missed. I had to wait till I was old enough to go on my own.

my dad introduced me to latics at an early age and we still go together today but heres the thing, he has always been a blackpool fan. i remember being on holiday in blackpool when i was young and they were at home to oldham, he wanted to take me but for some reason i didn’t want to go so he went on his own. things could have been so different.

I was a 13 year old Bedford Town Fc fan back in 1973/1974.. I attended springfield Park in the FA Trophy quarter final..the Eagles over turned the form book and beat the mighty Wiagn at Springfield ..Hole in the net David Skinn struck on a wet and miserable day. (went on to lose 6-2 on agg v Scarboro’) loved the aura of the ground even then… many moons on who would of thought that my son would grow an affection for WIGAN the club..

Now season ticket holders we love the club… We travel 360 odd miles return for each home game… We Believe

Have my late grandfather, Les Jackson, to thank. Chairman of the Latics in the mid-60s (days of Alan Brown, Harry Lyon etc.).

He subsequently moved on to assume VP Lancashire FA duties and in so doing gave me exposure at an early age to the best of ‘grass roots’ soccer and big games (FA Cup – Leeds/Sun’land,L’pool/Newcastle, etc.).

            Great days.

His devotion / service to football was such that his own daughter swore blind she would never marry anyone interested in football.

Today, both my mother AND father (converted) are season ticket-holders at Latics ;) Have been throughout their spell in the Premiership.

Boy would he find the whole thing unbelievable (Latics in PL, daughter converted to football, etc.)
