“We needed an experienced keeper at the club” – Paul Cook
Wigan Athletic have signed former Everton, Leyton Orient, Preston North End, Coventry City, Rochdale, Colchester United and Stevenage goalkeeper Jamie Jones on a season-long deal.

The 28 year-old underwent a medical this morning at the club and the Latics manager Paul Cook is delighted to have brought him to the club.

He said: “Jamie is someone I know well and been on opposition teams we have played. We need competition for Christian and the experience of someone who has played 300 games will benefit competition in the squad. Jamie is an excellent goalkeeper who is a natural shot-stopper and commands his area well and we are really pleased to have him on board.”

Jones began his professional career at Everton but without breaking through to the first team picture in the Tim Howard era. He moved to Leyton Orient in 2008 and went on to play 179 times at Brisbane Road before moving to Preston in 2014, playing 17 times. Loan spells followed at Coventry, Rochdale and Colchester before he agreed an 18-month deal at Stevenage in January 2016, where he was a virtual ever-present, making 57 appearances.

Wigan Athletic’s 22-year-old forward Kaiyne Woolery has moved to Swindon Town in a permanent deal.

Woolery, who was on loan at Forest Green Rovers last season and won promotion from the National League with them, only featured once for the Latics first team since his move from Bolton Wanderers in August 2016, as a late substitute against Derby County last December.

The BBC transfer page says he has joined Luton for £350,000, but I trust you and our Official site more than the Beeb. A good bit of business as I doubt we paid Noblot that much for him.

According to Wigan Today, we paid £100,000 for him last summer, so £250,000 profit is not bad for a player who had one sub appearance for us.

Well if times get boring again that’s another ex Latics strikers to watch out for on Fotmob. Why any of these rejects were signed in the first place is mind boggling. With Bogle that is 4 so called strikers we’ve got shut of.
