There’s a paragraph on page 73 in todays Sun which says we could be getting new owners and this could mean tricky times ahead for the football authorities, its a bit vague, anybody know what it’s all about ?

I didn’t realise that sun readers could count to 73 so why do they put so many pages in ?
10 February 2012 at 12:49 pm #81010I’m shocked there’s one paragraph of news (albeit vague). :ohmy:
10 February 2012 at 2:16 pm #81015Thanks to The Sport readers, that answers my question perfectly :S

rumour has it its “Oobedoo” making a comeback.
10 February 2012 at 3:10 pm #81024Probably all bull but dunno what the “tricky” situation could be – I’m assuming it may be someone/some group who already own one football club wanting to use Latics as a feeder or nursery club
10 February 2012 at 3:22 pm #81026Could be Eric Pollard. However it would only become awkward if we stayed in the Premier League and the rumour about them stopping rugby teams sharing a ground turned out to be true.

anything to do with the forth coming trip to the far east ?
10 February 2012 at 3:42 pm #81028yea its warriors chairman seems whelan as accepted offer for the club and stadium
the tricky bit is the ground was built by funds from the FA as well as whelan
so it will be rugby running the show not us
seems bloke who used to play rugby league was bob on
and i have said this on other threads
oh and warriors chairman as family involved with another club so yes complicated
and we might become a feeder club for them10 February 2012 at 3:43 pm #8102910 February 2012 at 3:54 pm #81031Anonymous
Is this where the rugby money is really going

and we might become a feeder club for themapart from the odd fixture clash I can’t see how it would make much difference really;
as I understand it we don’t own the stadium at the moment (despite Whelan’s pleadge to sign it over to us at the beginning of last season);
we pay rent, to whom doesn’t really matter;
we don’t get income from any of the non-football events at the stadium;
i can’t see a different stadium owner not wanting the income generated by about 3 or 4 hundred thousand football supporters each season so we are unlikely to be turfed out any time soon10 February 2012 at 4:46 pm #81035I’m more concerned how WE can become Oxford Uniteds feeder club
10 February 2012 at 5:25 pm #81037anything to do with the forth coming trip to the far east ?Oman is Middle East
10 February 2012 at 5:34 pm #81038Ian Leneghan has a very good reputation amongst Oxford United fans, as evidenced by the comments below that link. If he was to get involved with Wigan Athletic, I am sure he would operate the club arguably on an even better basis than Dave Whelan who constantly lets his other businesses overlap into Wigan Athletic.
For all the usual hysterical blather & conspiracy theories spawned out by the Under 5s on RL Fans.com [waves at RL fans.com kindergarten] Leneghan is a shrewd businessman & would recognise that a football club has ten times the presence & potential of a rugby league club, even one in a lower division.
he would probably look to unify the clubs and create one sporting entity as there are clear benefits here for both clubs. It will be difficult though seeing as many rugby fans for some inexplicable reasons hate Wigan Athletic & will go out of their way to support anyone else, usually one of the glory clubs. if anyone can change the bigoted attitude towards the towns football club which the rugby clubs fans have,then Leneghan is probably that man. As a former fan of both, driven away from RL by the incessant bullying shown towards the rugby fraternity towards Latics,I for one would welcome this -
