9 December 2009 at 9:02 pm #14915running around like a young pup, bags a hat trick, superb off the ball movement,no hes not good enough owen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!TAXI FOR WHELANValue for money, was what Whelan was referring to. At the time, Owen was looking for wages close to the £100k per week he was on. If Whelan had brought Owen in on that kind of money, I’d have rung for the taxi myself.
I believe he has signed for United for around £20k per week plus bonuses. If Whelan had offered that deal, I would have been happy. Owen, would have still been p****** himself laughing.
You know, it might be an idea for some of you to turn championship manager off once in a while. This is the real world we are dealing with.
9 December 2009 at 9:50 pm #14919even paying owen that kind of money would have been cheaper than the 4mill plus we paid for king or 3mill for scotland, thats 8mill and owen could have been offerd the option to move in the transfer window.
9 December 2009 at 9:58 pm #14921I’ll whisper this – Michael Owen wouldn’t have come to Wigan
9 December 2009 at 10:03 pm #14924I’ll whisper this – Michael Owen wouldn’t have come to WiganThanks. Sometimes, it really is like banging your head against the wall.
9 December 2009 at 10:04 pm #14926I’ll whisper this – Michael Owen wouldn’t have come to Wiganmissing the point, whelan said he wasnt good enough, do you understand!
i wouldnt come neither after being slated in the press9 December 2009 at 10:05 pm #14928I’ll whisper this – Michael Owen wouldn’t have come to WiganIll whisper this then…..Yes he would, and was going to before he joined Newcastle so why wouldn’t he now?
9 December 2009 at 10:10 pm #14931Not missing the point.
Making a point that destroys the original point.
Whelan’s comments were correct in the context. Wigan Athletic cannot afford to gamble on an older, injury-prone player on astronomical wages. He was a miserable failure at Newcastle. Ask the Geordies what they think of him.
They have to try to unearth new talent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes you have to give players a little time.
Michael Owen was not a good solution for Wigan Athletic, on any level.
Who told you he was going to join us before he signed for Newcastle? I think we made an offer and he turned us down.

Whelan himself said that Owen rang him when we were promoted saying he decided to join newcastle (we offered him the claus where we could have sold him in jan), or was you not a fan until we was ACTUALLY playing in the prem?
And how do you know that he wasnt a good option for wigan? Sign him on Champ man?

i wouldnt come neither after being slated in the press[/quote]So, as well as not getting football, you don’t get how the press works either?

I’ll give it two days before the insults get more childish

9 December 2009 at 10:19 pm #14942He phoned Whelan to thank him for making an offer. He was letting us down lightly and making himself look like a nice boy. He never said he was coming here! You’re rewriting history. Seriously check it out.
It’s my opinion that he isn’t right for the club. Oh hang on, I forgot, it’s only the doom-mongers who are allowed to have an opinion….

Dont yet know what a ‘doom-monger’ is but you said he ‘wasn’t’ right for the club, you cannot state that he wasn’t when he wasn’t given the chance.
Oh and i may have been re-writing it a little :) … But he was more or less saying that he would have if newcastle hadn’t have come in.
9 December 2009 at 10:29 pm #14944It was seen at the time as an outrageous offer by the press. Owen was being polite and letting the little club down lightly. He never stated he wanted to come to Wigan.
In the same way he would never have gone to Hull, before Man U signed him.
Doom-monger = boo boy.
