My mate is a die hard Everton fan. Lives, breathes and bleeds the club.

He’s had a season ticket since 1985 and yet this season, he hasn’t got one. Why? Because he cocked up and missed the deadline date for renewals, realising the morning after. He contacted the club to explain his error, and that it was a simple mistake. Guess what? Nothing doing. They ‘allowed’ him to pay £30 to become an official member and have a chance of winning a ticket in the ballot. Guess what? He didn’t. His name is on a 5000 strong waiting list now. He tried all sorts via friends and contacts, speaking the the real hierachy at the club. Nothing worked. He even had friends who are die hard Liverpool fans writing to Everton for him, vouching what a great fan he is.

It gets better. Being a die hard, he’s gone out to Ruzemberok in Slovakia for tonight’s game. He’s flown via dusseldorf and krakow, before going into Slovakia in a mini bus. He’s spent about £400 and that’s before beer and food. He has NOT got a match ticket and the lad he thought would sort him out, hasn’t done. He has been sending me pics of drinking at bars and beer gardens all day, with his Everton flag tied up proud among others.

You know what the ironic thing is? I will probably see more of the game (on telly) than he will.

The morale of this story is, the next time you are criticising Latics, just appreciate the fact that we do actually support a club who HASN’T got too big for its boots and who cannot and will not cast aside genuine, die hard supporters like that. My mate has lost countless jobs due to his devotion to Everton…he will continue to as well. One of the best supporters a club could have…actually obsessed with Everton. And look where it’s got him?

We may be a small club in comparison, but I’d hate us to ever get like that as a club.

I’m sure if we had a waiting list for tickets we would do the same thing as opposed to being able to all get 2 seats and still fail to sell out.

I’ll say one thing for Bobby Brown shoes. If he was still at Goodison, he would have been the type of fella that would have got it sorted !!!

He’s hoping to get into corporate, as his pal has a box in there…but this is the same pal that’s let him down tonight for a ticket. I wouldn’t hold out much hope. He knows all.kinds of people.with connections, that Andy Nicholls, the ex hooligan turned author. I still think he’s going to struggle to get into games.

And he likes his ale on match day…I’m teetotal.
