Well two one off games against either Barnsley Fleetwood or Morecambe and we are there. It would be great and a confidence booster rather than distraction. A good chance providing we show the opposition the respect they deserve.
We should be in with a decent shout Donny. Barnsley & Fleetwood in relegation position, York & Morecambe in league two?
The problem is, we’ll make changes whereas they could go all out for a trip to Wembley.
I was going to put something along those lines Egg (if he takes it seriously that is) but didn’t want to come across as negative. Let’s hope he does, so we can have another trip down south, and face the “what used to be”, regular train chaos!!
Was he seen to be taking it seriously on Tuesday with 10 changes from Saturday?.
Didn’t do us any harm. B)
A better opposition and that game could have had a different outcome, Blackpool were poor. I’m under no illusion that the side put out for Blackpool can take us all the way. GC will have to field a stronger side to be sure of going all the way, IMO?
13 November 2015 at 6:13 pm #145804On another note has anybody jumped the gun and booked anything for a stopover down there? ;)
I haven’t booked owt but I did spend quite a while on Wednesday looking at train times & prices and hotel costs for doing a Friday through Monday stay over with the family.
Train prices weren’t too bad at the time but there were no cheap hotels coming up like I found for the cup final
Did you look at Premier Inns?

Yeah
Don’t get me wrong if you want to pre-pay for a room you can pick something up at a premier inn right by Wembley for about £200 for a family room for 3 nights & some a few miles away (Harrow for example) for just over £100 for the same period. Problem is that they’re the no-refund rooms meaning that if we get turfed out next month by Morecambe I’ve already paidYou can book the flexi-rooms but that’s when you start to push £300 – fine if we get knocked out before the final but £300 + 4 match tickets + 4 train tickets starts to add up.
I might just have to try & unsuggest the idea to the wife that it would be a good family weekend away to see the sights & watch Latics crowned 3 times Football League Trophy winners, and just go for a boozy day & night with the lads!!!
13 November 2015 at 8:53 pm #145806I’ve only booked the Sunday, I’ve planned on us staying Friday/Saturday with folk down there. I’ll drive, costs me nothing extra than I pay in my tax normally.
If we don’t get there I’ll lose £35 or I’ll go the game and support feckin Morecambe or somert.
I know Harrow (Kenton) was £77 at Premier Inn Sat/Sun nights which isn’t too much to lose or like I say, you could go anyway. It’s a dear do London if you go all weekend, train, digs, cost of fun, match tickets, whether you find a deal or not.

Having costed it up looks like I’ll be taking my tourer down & staying on a site in the Colne Valley for 20 quid a night!!!13 November 2015 at 9:08 pm #145808If we get there!!
13 November 2015 at 11:10 pm #145810No guarantee – but a few years ago I booked a hotel in London for a couple of nights via an American site which ended up miles cheaper than anything here.
It seems American tour agents block-book hotels and you can get good deals if you are willing to pay a company in Dallas in USD.

I stayed near Watford last time and got the over ground to Wembley which was only a short train journey away. With kids, worked out cheaper than staying in London and no hassle.
