Not heard much talk of where people are going for a drink before the game Saturday. Anyone got anywhere in mind? :)

Where does he mention anything about going to Southampton?.
There are plenty pubs in Wigan that will provide liquid refreshment before the game. B)

I never realised Southampton was a city or such a big place until I went there about 3 years ago to visit her indoors family.
Theres a really big shopping centre in the centre, and yes, it is a University city.
Her relatives actually live on Hill Lane, which is a long leafy road full of big houses. They are pretty well off (millionaires) as they run a bespoke shoe business and shop. The Dell, or rather the site of it, was just down the road and as we were going home one day, we were parked in traffic and I noticed a block of flats named ‘Le Tissier Court’ I questioned it and was informed that it was where The Dell used to be.
24 August 2012 at 8:25 pm #92026I went to the Dell many years ago. It was a great ground. The “chocolate boxes” were unique – double-deck open terracing. And the other end (I won’t call it the “away end” as terraces and stands weren’t particularly designated that then) was tiny a la Torquay.

Reminds me of a smaller version of Athletic Bilbao’s San Mames stadium. That pitch looks very wide, but not very long. Or is it an optical illusion?

How bizarre – my missus’s family live just up from Hill Lane near the common. We’re staying there over the weekend, so I’ll be walking to the ground from theirs via the station to pick up some fellow London Latics just after 1.
Let us know on here Appley if you end up choosing a boozer.

25 August 2012 at 4:18 am #92061Was on that ground back in the early 70’s when united played them in the cup. Don’t ask me why I was there it was a teenage thing. About 2 mins from the end about 200 united fans piled out the away end and marched into the home end.
What followed was the biggest pitch battle I’ve ever seen or been involved in. If you wern’t hitting somebody, some feker was hitting you. The ref blew for full time early and the battle was still raging at 6 o’clock the police just couldn’t handle it.
I also remember some united fans hanging from trees just outside the ground to get a view.
Fond memories of a ground steeped in history and got a cold shiver when returning quite a few years later watching the tics in a cup match. :cheer:From Matlock to ManU
