If we had gone out of the League at the time he took over we would have disappeared like Maidstone.
We would now be a “phoenix club” in the North West Counties, or whatever it’s called these days.
Dirt cheap season tickets for all the loyal supporters and mega cheap for under 21’s to watch top flight football is hardly the work of a tight git.

I was too young to know about most of what happened in these times. I just assumed there would still be a Wigan Athletic, and we have Whelan to thank for WHERE we are.
