No reason. There would be a Wigan Athletic without Whelan. Just not quite as good. Was meant to put Big smile face not laughing face.

If we had gone out of the League at the time he took over we would have disappeared like Maidstone.
We would now be a “phoenix club” in the North West Counties, or whatever it’s called these days.

I was too young to know about most of what happened in these times. I just assumed there would still be a Wigan Athletic, and we have Whelan to thank for WHERE we are.
