On the back page of the WEP today(Wednesday) there is an advert for a charter train for the trip to Wembley, after a sharp intake of breath at the prices quoted standard fare £60 and first class £90, I read the advert properly and it says Sunday 14th April – do they know something that we don’t.
Standish is this the train trip you mentioned ?
the company running it is worldchoice sports/travel.
Can’t see there being many people with kids taking up this option.
13 March 2013 at 6:54 pm #105136Their website gives the date as 13th rather than 14th but says that times that it leaves will only be confirmed at a later date.

This isn’t the trip I was on about but I knew this lot were going to do it as they tried (and failed) with the same thing for Stoke.
If their train doesn’t fill they’ll cancel it.
There is something else in the planning stage.
13 March 2013 at 9:25 pm #105143£60.00 – somebody is seriously taking the piss I think.
Who in their right mind would fork that much out ?
14 March 2013 at 12:04 am #105149Funnily enough I priced this up for the Saturday & that’s the price I got from Virgin.
14 March 2013 at 4:46 am #105156Funnily enough I priced this up for the Saturday & that’s the price I got from Virgin.Taz, £60 for a return trip to London on a dedicated supporters train aint a bad price.
Wait till/if we get into Europe and some of the people on here see the flight prices…
14 March 2013 at 1:54 pm #105178London return on a weekend is normally over £80 ! Even if you book early now the prices are still fairly high, gone are the days of the £32 return !
14 March 2013 at 4:14 pm #105186Another, more leisurely, way to get to Wembley is to catch a train from Wigan to Birmingham New Street, return from £42 – two singles are often cheaper.
Take the short walk to Moor Street and catch a very comfortable Chiltern Railways train to Wembley Stadium, the station closest to the ground.
The offpeak return fare from Birmingham Moor Street to Wembley Stadium (or London Marylebone) is £27.50. And you save the fare from Euston to Wembley, £11 or £5.40 with an Oyster card.

for me and my son aged 14 £76.00
16 March 2013 at 2:48 pm #105346Isn’t last train around 8/30 making it a non-starter especially if extra time involved ?
16 March 2013 at 3:26 pm #105347A charter train will be able to wait until the end of the game.
Kick-off 5.15
Full time say 7.10
Extra time ends say 7.40
Penalties end say 8.00The last train back to Wigan is;
dep 19:58 Wembley Central [WMB] arr Watford Junction [WFJ] 20:28
dep 20:46 Watford Junction [WFJ] arr Wigan North Western [WGN] 23:04You could just catch it after extra time. But it won’t carry 30,000 passengers, more like 500.

16 March 2013 at 5:59 pm #105366I’m sorry, but I’m not familiar with the any Virgin services.
