There have been no “wholescale changes” to the back 5 as it is identical to the one that has been there since about January 2008,
yet we’ve gone from having one of the best defensive records outside of the top 4 to the 4th worst in the division.If Bobby is asking them to play a completely different style then it quite clearly isn’t working & he needs to realise we don’t have the players capable of “playing their way out from the back” & change his methods. How often does he have to stick his hand in a fire before he realises it burns?
Completly agree with you about the defence, I have said before that when Bruce left we lost Brambles mentor, and we are missing his wisdom of defence because no matter what anyone says about him he was an awesome defender and cleary had an impact on the defenders at our club. We should apoint someone to the coaching staff with experiance of defending in the top flight. I think the problem is the two fullbacks being caught out of position too often trying to attack.

I’m pretty sure Benson was a swashbuckling full back in the top flight with Norwich. Probably more buckling than swash but what the hell.
And if Uncle Dave can help out with defending at corners like he did for Rioch , we should be sorted. :?

Be careful what you wish for. I saw an old pair of Stylo Matchmakers in Age Concern in Ashton today. Don’t give those two any ideas or they’ll be down on Sunday filling that problem left-back spot, swash, buckle or not.
