Assuming we don’t get anything from Spurs, and yes, I know that’s negative, but I am being realistic, we will go into the Sunderland game with 14 points.
If we get the same number of points in the other two-thirds of the season, we’ll only finish with 42 points. I think that would be very dissappointing, as the players we have got are capable of better.I think we have a problem at the moment, in the fact that we seem to get stuck in ‘third gear’ for too long in games. And again, we go towards a January transfer window short on striking options. How many times in a game do we put a low ball in or around the 6 yard box and there’s nobody to actually finish? (I don’t think that’s Scotland’s style, by the way)
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think we’ll go down, but I certainly think we are in danger of under-achieving. However, perhaps we can add some faces to the squad and gain some consistency.
8 November 2009 at 11:06 pm #12524I agree, after 5 years in the Prem we should be looking for more than just survival. Maybe we would be if we didn’t sell all our best players. Who’s to blame for that? I’ll let you decide, but if we had kept most of our top players since promotion then we would definitely be a force in the Prem. Not negative, just realistic.
8 November 2009 at 11:11 pm #12529what a stupid comment. if we had kept all our best players we would be broke!!!!
sell to survive, live with it pal.8 November 2009 at 11:22 pm #12533Would we? Anyway, Man Utd are reportedly £600 million in debt, and their not doing too bad.
Let’s face it whenever we get a good player he will be sold. Usually for a lower price than it should be. And that’s not complaining, it’s just realistic and in response to what actually happens.
8 November 2009 at 11:27 pm #12538who got sold for less than they should have?
Lets bvlame DW for everything that happens, you fool.
Where were you when we were shxxt
8 November 2009 at 11:30 pm #12539Im with Vat on this one!
How many times do we get forward in a thretening posistion then play the ball backwards instead of a killer pass!
8 November 2009 at 11:34 pm #12542Where in any of my posts did I mention Mr Whelan?
Chimbonda on the list for £6mill, sold for £4mill
Roberts, quality striker sold for £2.5 million
Cattermole, what was it about £6 million? Considering Hull got £12 million from Sunderland for Turner £6 million is pretty small.
Bullard, just £2.5 million, in his prime too. Fulham got £5.5 million out of the same older, injury prone Bullard.
McCulloch, only £2.2 million or something. Could have go at least £3.5 I think.
Need I go on?
9 November 2009 at 12:15 am #12550Worst mistake we made, was letting Roberts go.
He’d be great as the front man in this team. Bustly, twisting and turning, bringing others into play, AND scoring goals.
Not many of his type about. Would not touch Heskey with a bargepole. That would be going backwards for me.
9 November 2009 at 12:17 am #12553Agreed, for me Roberts is brilliant on his day. A real beast of a striker, £2.5 million was a steal for Balckburn.
9 November 2009 at 12:26 am #12558Roberts would be great but i think playing the 4 5 1 heskeys the right man for the job.
Imagine those balls to him from Diame, Thomas and the defence with Scharner, Rodders and Nzogbia running on from him i dont think any defence in the league could handle that.
My concern is that the players linked are not goalscorers!
9 November 2009 at 12:27 am #12561Yes, I have that concern too. and with our other striker behind bars I think we may have to invest in January.

What do you mean may think it’s a priority 8-)
9 November 2009 at 5:25 pm #12634Heard a couple of rumours going around that this the guy we are after, has a great scoring record.

9 November 2009 at 8:47 pm #12653Chimbonda on the list for £6mill, sold for £4millYou know there isn’t really a ‘list’, don’t you? It’s not Amazon. Those ‘list’ prices are mainly paperagent talk.
Plus, in all of those cases, the player was adamant that he wanted to leave and the buying club knew that. Ergo, price always is lower than if the player isn’t pushing for a move himself
