But…
If we stay up this season. If we some how make Europe next season. If we manage to keep Bobby in spite of all the summer speculation linking him to real Madrid and barcalona.
Can we for the first time in god knows how long start the season with a secure footing, stability and a squad who know each other.
IF we can do this and keep Kone, Maloney and Di Santo along with midfield macca’s the season can potentially be our finest. Starting the season as FA cup winners.
Just imagine……..
3 April 2013 at 2:46 am #107359Perhaps the legendary war chest might make a belated appearance as well (not)…. Pigs in space :P

3 April 2013 at 5:03 am #107391I was hoping for the same this season considering that the team that went on that run was still intact bar Moses.

I was hoping for the same this season considering that the team that went on that run was still intact bar Moses.Me and you both!
I thought we’d come flying out the blocks at the start of this season… shows what I know
Saying that, WHEN we do stay up (positivity), I do think we should really be able to kick on next season.
I’m almost certain that McGeady will be linking up with us next season, presuming we stay up.
I can imagine him & Maloney working very, very well together.
Also, I really do hope we can see Ramis & Alcaraz playing alongside each other in the Prem next season. I think those 2 in the same back 3 will be top quality… just need Alcaraz to sign an effin’ contract!
I’d love Scharner to stay on to make up that back 3, but can’t see it happening.
On top of what I’ve already said, if we keep hold of Kone and BOTH Macs, then that is a really solid team backbone to build around.
3 April 2013 at 8:07 pm #107472I’d like them all to stay too. People think it’s easy to replace a player, but that’s not always the case. And if you replace several, then you have to rebuild the teamwork too.
I’m sure there will be some new faces. We do need a bigger and better squad to improve. Wigan – if they survive – will earn bigger licence fees next year, but so will every other Premier League club. So it looks as though we’ll still be looking abroad.
We should be thinking about a replacement for Boyce, although he may be able to extend his career by dropping into defence.
Aiden McGeady’s name has cropped up again – Martinez seems to like Scots. Celtic sold him to Spartak Moscow for £9.5 million making him the most expensive player to be sold by a Scottish club.
I may be wrong, but I imagine that he’s like Maloney. That’s not a bad thing, but do we have room for two?
3 April 2013 at 8:10 pm #107473You never know the experience af playing in big matches at Wembley (Final fingers crossed) and then the lure of European football might just give the push we need for the contract renewals and maybe a better calibre of player.
And i also cant see Bobby walking away if he gets us into Europe its like bagging the fittest bird in Wigan after chasing her for 9 months, spreadeagled on the bed ready to go then walking away to go with the minger next door.

Yep I’ve done that. Admittedly, just that last bit.
3 April 2013 at 8:42 pm #107486Martinez seems to like Scots. You’re not wrong fella!
He is married to a bonnie scottish lass too isnt he?
If I was the Scottish FA I would keep offering the job to Martinez throughout his career as no other fecker can get them to play.

I’d definitely love to see them both in the same team!!
Think they’d compliment each other well.Plus him and McCarthy are both Scottish lads playing for Ireland, so I bet they get on well ;)
Agree with you 100% regarding Boyce.
The guy is a Wigan legend, but we could definitely do with someone who is going to seriously challenge Boycey for that place and who will be his long-term replacement.3 April 2013 at 8:59 pm #107489I may be wrong, but I imagine that he’s like Maloney. Edited: bollocks. Should read posts properly before commenting. (I originally read it as McArthur)3 April 2013 at 9:24 pm #107492Aiden McGeady’s name has cropped up again – Martinez seems to like Scots.Just as well he likes the Irish too then, if he likes McGeady!
3 April 2013 at 9:44 pm #107494Like McCarthy, McGeady was born in Glasgow. He too has an Irish grandfather and has chosen to play for Ireland.
And it’s a time when Scotland is crying out for good players.

From Wikipedia;
In June 2009, Martínez married his Scottish girlfriend Beth Thompson at St Joseph’s Cathedral in Swansea. The couple met in Scotland in 2002, while he was playing for Motherwell.
Whilst playing for Real Zaragoza, Martínez obtained a bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy. He also has a postgraduate diploma in business management, which he obtained from Manchester University.
So it’s clear Martinez is far from the stereotypical English manager. Harry Redknapp says that he can’t write, even to make out a team sheet. I think Martinez said recently that he had lived for longer in Wigan than in Spain. He must have some attachment to the town!
