http://www.awardsengraving.co.uk/triple-star-1331-p.asp9 June 2012 at 5:39 pm #88996Good to see the club are freeing up some money for him at last he deserves it after the magnificent end to last season.
He needs to scour the league for bargains and rough diamonds because i prefer these than the ‘off the peg’ players like those that QPR signed last season.
It was great to see Maloney come good last season and what a bargain he has turned out to be.Also good to see they are working on signings at the moment rather than messing about at the last minute.
Cant wait for next season-counting the days down! :pinch:9 June 2012 at 5:45 pm #88998I have a questions for the Lightside, if the article is correct and the club are giving Bob the biggest transfer kitty they have ever made available
1) Would people expect him to spend the so called warchest?
2) If he does spend it and then in years to come we have to cut back will Bob be accused of putting the clubs future in doubt?
3) I would imagine that any spending done at our club would have to be sanctioned by DW so although Bob is the manager DW has the final say?
4) Would question 3 not be the same for all our managers?
5) And if so how can Steve Bruce be blamed for over spending and not concentrating on youth development?

Of course he should spend it if he’s got it to spend.
He shouldn’t have to cut back because the club is now managed better from top to bottom and a lot of lessons have been learned over the past nine years.
Dave Whelan isn’t an accountant, so I’d say the CEO (who was/is an accountant) has a fair bit of influence to say about what can and can’t be spent.
Steve Bruce can’t be blamed totally, but bear in mind it was a totally different group of people reporting into Mr Whelan in those days and I’m sure they should shoulder some of the blame as it wasn’t always a ‘bat phone’ straight through to Whelan’s office.

Agreed Standish it’s just that Bruce gets alot of bad press from alot of people on this sight and given the same situation would Bob do things differently???

I hate to put a downer on things, and I know we are not used to this kind of thing from our beloved club, but does anybody else get the feeling this is just another one of our many PR stunts this season to get some hype going about us and sell some season tickets?

I’m not saying Bobby won’t get money to spend, I’d just be very suprised if we do go and break the bank by spending more than we ever have. A statement like the one issued by the club looks like it was solely intended for publicity and not necessarilly a true indication of their intent. What sense would it make to go around shouting that we have money to spend in a business such as football other than for PR?!
I do hope I am wrong though
9 June 2012 at 8:59 pm #89016War chest my arse,we have been down this road numerous times :cheer:
11 June 2012 at 8:34 pm #89081I know but cant wait to see the Darkside turn as we dont get that Messi lad.
12 June 2012 at 1:34 am #89099It won’t affect the clubs finances at all, dave has still got the original £40 million warchest that he promised to Jewell, the one that was there but didnt get spent because nobody in the world wanted to come to Wigan, and the one that won’t get spent again, because there’s still nobody in the world that wants to come to Wigan. And to think they’ve built a chippy and everything.
12 June 2012 at 1:35 am #89100The chippy wont be as cheap as chips ;)
12 June 2012 at 2:33 am #89112Sky are reporting that the young centre forward at Crewe Powell, is on his way to OT for a fee of £4m.
I’m sure SAF will want him out on loan next season if he does sign. Might be a good loan signing for us without the worry of throwing a lot of money on him and him turning out to be a Mr Prato head. :woohoo:From Matlock to ManU
