2 February 2011 at 12:31 pm #57916Gordon Bennett! Talk about getting carried away by the media tossing off when they change their minds on a weekly basis as to who wins the league or goes down, at Xmas!
There’s 13 games left, ample time to get some good points. If there’s 5 games to go it would be more realistic to forecast.
There may well be ample games left but in all reality we aint gonna get doodley squat from 5 of those games.
These 5 games (United, City, Liverpool, Spurs & Chelsea) come in the next 7 fixtures & I think we may get 4 from the other 2 if we’re lucky in that run (Blackburn & Brum). that would put us on 27 points with 6 games left which in all likelihood is going to leave us playing catch up with the other teams in the relegation mire & probably needing to win 3 or 4 of those last 6 games
Considering our wins for the season is currently at 4 from 25 (or 5 from 32 if my predictions are right) its highly unlikely that the team would win that many in so few gamesi think our survival depends on the team completely reversing their form & I see little sign of that
2 February 2011 at 12:59 pm #57923i am a fan of wigan athletic THE football club & have been for 32 years. i have never been a darksider but in all honesty i just cannot see us picking up more than 10 points in the last 13 games. i really do hope i’m wrong, but we have lost valuable points in the games against fulham, villa & now west brom. for any chance of survival i would have liked at least 6 points from those games but we only picked up 2. i’m sorry, but i think the dream is over unless we play the next 13 games like 13 cup finals & score 1 more goal than the opposition.
2 February 2011 at 1:06 pm #57924:crazy: yeah plenty points up for grabs but you need a team that will claim the points,it would help if we put a few wins together,we can’t even manage back to back wins but time will tell. :mrgreen:Back 2 back wins!? 1 win would be nice! Huge game on saturday with the run of games coming up, got to get 3 points.
2 February 2011 at 3:13 pm #57958I have thought for a long time now – about 6 weeks – that we will get relegated.
And the improvement in performances over the last few games -albeit with nothing to show for it – have not changed that view.
I hope I am wrong. And I don’t consider relegation as being “doomed”
2 February 2011 at 3:22 pm #57961I think if we don’t win on Saturday we’ve had it.
If we win on Saturday we keep in touch with the other sides and we go to Anfield with a bit of optimism going into our tough run of games. I still think we can pull off a shock similar to the Spurs game if we can get Alcaraz back. How about putting Alcaraz at centre half with Boyce? Just an idea
Fail to win on Saturday and I just can’t see us turning it around.
If we go down, we go down. I’ll still support the side
2 February 2011 at 3:28 pm #57964not only are we bookies favouites to get relegated – we are now bookies favourite to finish bottom
2 February 2011 at 3:39 pm #57969Of course we’re the favourites to finish bottom. We have played more games than both Wolves and West Spam and are just two points ahead of them.
In theory if they win those games in hand they would be ahead of us and we would be bottom that is why we are favourites with the bookies.
2 February 2011 at 4:59 pm #57988the bookmakers have us to finish bottom as it reflects the season so far and reflects the games to come and is thus based over 38 games
not because someone has a game in hand on us
:roll:2 February 2011 at 7:10 pm #58002I think the “we’re doomed” scenario depends on how you answer this question.Do I support Wigan Athletic, the football club, or do I support Wigan Athletic, the Premier League football club. If it’s the latter, then yes we are doomed and you’ll no doubt walk away like many others. If it’s the former, then we aren’t doomed, we’ll simply be playing at a lower level.
Well said Otter, its not the end of the world or WAFC if we go down. There will still be a team playing next season you know and you never know we may even enjoy next season if we go down and win a few more games? I actually think that with all the young lads that played at Bolton in cup we would have a good side next year more than capable of coming back up.
2 February 2011 at 10:25 pm #58023And the improvement in performances over the last few games -albeit with nothing to show for it – have not changed that view.I would compare the improvement in performance to the last twitching of a dying fly. The tough games coming up will mean the last 3 games of the season (which are winnable), will be an irrelevence.
