14 November 2010 at 2:11 pm #51025The eggmen are very quiet these days, suprised their not on ere spouting, hey mon.
Just to keep you happy,
Did Wigan Athletic manage to field any English players this week?
Were there any Wigan lads playing or any developed through the Wigan academy.Still if you’re happy being fourth from bottom in front of the lowest attendance in the Premiers League (again) then good on you.
Have a nice day, :D
14 November 2010 at 2:29 pm #51026Victor Moses and Tom Cleverley are English.
And Latics don’t have an Academy as far as I’m aware, as there are a significant number of other clubs around that have them.
Oh – and am I happy being fourth from bottom of possibly the world’s highest profile sporting league – yes actually.
And as for crowds. Doesn’t bother me one bit. I was there – if others choose not to be that’s their prerogative.

i would expect local lads to reach the top in a minority regional sport- its a bit like lads from springfield getting into the prince of wales darts team or whelley/scholes lads making the first team for the balcarres in the wigan and district pool league.
football is watched in EVERY country in the world and every kid that plays the game dreams of one day playing in the premier league, so a few decent kids from wigan have to compete with billions of decent kids world widehow many wigan lads have made it to the very top in the popular version of rugby ? you could say chris ashton perhaps but even he came from a union background before league,
one of the greatest players of all time(according to you worrier eggies) in thugby league “faz” was a complete and utter failure in the proper version of the sport –
i can name quite a few wigan lads who have had played in the top division of the top sport in the world
so what point are you trying to make ?14 November 2010 at 9:42 pm #51043only me and thee here at this ungodly hour -mickyc -you up for the boxing as well ?I don’t know why I keep throwing my money away at $ky – I even had a little flutter on the fourth (damn) – but no doubt the next time a late night sporting event comes on I’ll be a sucker for it again…….
15 November 2010 at 12:01 pm #51076just hope martinez learns , has he keeps tellings us he his learning, that gomez is only worth a sub place in the squad
Yeah and only bring him on when were 3 or 4 goals up winning, so He can slow the game down.   [/quote]
Couldnt see what Gomez added to the team, apart from the occasional winning of a free kick outside the box… Which we squandered anyway.

I think I had this argument with someone on the wigantoday website several months ago
I’d just point you in the direction of your official website which clearly shows where your players come from – I have say i was shocked an appalled at how few came from Wigan!! ;)
Players have come and gone since then so it may have changed but as someone else has pointed out if only a handful of towns in England play the sport of rugby league to any serious level, then it stands to reason that the majority of professional players of the sport will come from that same handful of towns.
If the sport of football is played at a serious level in the majority of the countries of the world then it stands to reason that the “cream of the crop” will come from the majority of the countries of the world
On top of that, if Wigan RL want to sign a Wigan lad as a youth team player they have possibly St Helens & Warrington as full time professional rivals for his signature
If Wigan Athletic want to sign a Wigan lad as a youth team player we have Man United, Man City, Liverpool, Everton, Bolton & Blackburn (& I guess now even Blackpool) as competition in our division alone. Chuck in the other full time professional teams within a 90 minute radius (the FA’s max distance from a youth team players address to the club’s ground) & a picture emerges of how difficult it is in football to entice youth team players to join LaticsIts not exactly rocket science Mr Gallery
