The team in full is as follows:
Latics: Kirkland; Stam, Gohouri, Lopez, Kiernan, Boothman, B. Watson, Thomas, Angoy, McManaman, Sammon
Subs: Hare, McCormack, Buxton, R. Watson, Chow
Strong team. Whenever I go to watch them they always play the youngsters (nothing against them, but would still like to see some “proper” reserves)
Not a bad game and strangely none of the sideways and backwards passing apart from maybe Watson who was average in my opinion ! Gohouri had a great game and was impressive surging forward skipping by players ! Stam is ready for a return and just nicked man of the match for me from Gohouri. He was lightening down the wing and created plenty ! There was a worrying moment when he slipped awkwardly and felt his thigh and the game was stopped but he was ok and soon back up to top speed ! McManaman was a handful especially in the first half but faded slightly towards the end. Jones came on as a sub and chased everything down and looked fit and Hendry Thomas was comfortable as a holding mid fielder and played very well. I practically missed our first because as I walked in I just saw a glancing header from a corner fly in not sure who it was though ( Glasses off ! ) Our 2nd was an own goal back pass and their goal was a well drilled effort that Kirkland could nothing about ! On the whole a good effort from all the fringe players and I would say 4 of them could walk straight back into the 1st team. Sammon worked his socks off but to no avail ! ( He may have scored the header though ? )
what does WADS stand for?. why not just call them the Reserves or 2ND team .also where as Phil’s post gone from this thread?.

I don’t know why they are called that, but would guess because they aren’t actually the second team – with 24 squad players we can field another team behind the “first team”, and do when playing Carling Cup, FA Cup etc. The WADS team are primarily the youngsters who are coming through the ranks and being developed – hence the name.
And I have no idea where Phil’s post has gone – I don’t even remember seeing one.
The Development Squad tag is not just a Wigan thing. Many Premier League teams use that term now for their reserve teams.
