I have spent most of today in complete bewilderment at what must have gone on at the Lane. This has lead me to question whether we can possibly be so bad as to lose 9-1 (NINE for Gods sake!) and if so, are we in trouble. You’re bloody right we are.
We have no desire. No leadership. Either on the pitch or in the dug-out and for that the blame must lie solely at the door of Martinez.
Burnley game aside, the way that we completely buckle after concedeing a goal is diabolical. That shows a complete lack of fighting spirit and that is terrifying.
I wouldn’t have either of them back but could you imagine us losing 9-1 to anyone with Bruce or PJ in charge? Not a chance.
I’m not calling for Roberto’s head BUT he needs to change things around and quick time. Players played out of position, terrible substitutions. Sticking with people who are obviously out of their depth. Leads me to think some players are questioning their boss and it shows.
23 November 2009 at 2:52 am #13505We won’t be far off from relegation, at the very best this season.
I was thinking we’ll get 42 points and it might be enough. But I’m now thinking we might only get 36 points. That’s got to be dangerous.
I’m going off the fact that we have reached a third of the season gone (next Sat) and have 12 points. Carry on like that and average will be 36 points.
Worrying? Yes. I don’t think some fans quite realise the danger yet.

A belief completely & totally vindicated by the fact that in his post match comments, our manager seems to indicate that after going 2-0 down the game became all about players not getting yellow cards & suspensions for the Sunderland game
Now I’ve only read the interview/quote rather than hearing it first hand & in its true context but that for me is a shocking attitude & admission for a manager to make & admit to
Latics have been in the top flight for 4 & a third seasons & yet have taken virtually all of our biggest tonkings in that third of a season alone23 November 2009 at 4:23 pm #13560Stop being so negative ! i agree we have a chance of being relegated yeah , but stop looking at the bad things. We beat Chelsea 3 – 1 and people start going on about how we going to be doing to do well this season and the next minute everones being negative.
Yeah 9 – 1 is unacceptable but if you ask me it’s a one off, just like how greece won euro or something :P but come on we have our bad days and our good days. If fans start being negative like this it then increases the chance that we will actually get relagated.
23 November 2009 at 5:03 pm #13568Some people take pride in being able to be negative about Wigan, we all guess that some day we will get relegated, however if you come out at every manager change and player purchase and say this will send us down, then one day they will get it right.
If people choose to be so negative then so be it. But that is a sad way to always look at things.
23 November 2009 at 6:14 pm #13585It is a freak result and frankly the reaction against bob isn’t fair. Someone commented about saying when we went 2 nil down it was about not losing players I’m sure he mentioned that after the fourth. This game is not going to shape our season. We have been humiliated an I am as angry as everyone else but I we have alot of positives as a club. On our day we are a very good side. Granted we need to perform consistently but I think we will get there. Figeuroa has been a huge loss but on his day Lennon can tear anyne apart. My one big issue though is the lack of leadership on the field. When we don’t perform no one has a go at anyone or motivates them an that is a worry. The result was a freak and I an sure we will see the real Wigan on Saturday!
23 November 2009 at 6:28 pm #13587“If people choose to be so negative then so be it”
In the last 3 games, Latics have conceded 15 & scored 2. The only positive spin you can possibly put on any of those 3 performances is that we probably should have beaten Fulham. Then again when Fulham went defensive & tried to close the game out, what did our manager do?? Put our most potent attacking threat to left back & left Scotland up front on his jack jones
As for this “on our day we are a good side” guff – I remember in our first season in the top flight West Brom beating Arsenal. They still got relegated. Other sides have got one off “freak” results against the “bigger” clubs and still got relegated too
“The result was a freak and I an sure we will see the real Wigan on Saturday!” – Was the 4-1 spanking from Blackpool a freak too?? What about the 2nd half capitulation to United? The drubbing from Arsenal? The battering off Pompey (a truly awful side)? Losing to Hull despite having 76% of the possession? Getting pulled all over the shop by Wolves for long stretches of the game?
The fact is that at the moment the freak results look like the Chelsea & Aston Villa victories. IMO we’ve played well in 5 out of 14 league & cup games. Martinez has turned one of the best defensive units outside of the top 4 to the worst in the division in just over 3 months“Someone commented about saying when we went 2 nil down it was about not losing players I’m sure he mentioned that after the fourth” – You’re right. I’ve seen a fuller interview than where I originally saw it (teletext) & he mentions it after the 4th. I think it hit a nerve when i originally saw the quote as it followed on from Melchiot after the Pompey game when he said that after going 2-0 down there is nothing the manager can do to turn things around
24 November 2009 at 12:12 pm #13666You just need to ask yourself, is the current management team / chairman that bad that you want to get rid? Will it be more beneficial to the club to support them or to criticise. Will you bother to support the team on Saturday or point out their failings.
Your choice !
24 November 2009 at 1:35 pm #13691Can anybody actually name an alternative to Roberto?
I can’t think of one. Just needs to get his team sorted and get some confidence back into the lads.
I cannot believe some of our players were only rated 1 out of 10. That is amazingly bad. Worst I have seen before has been about a 3.
24 November 2009 at 1:39 pm #13693was that in 1986 when you starting watching them.
24 November 2009 at 1:43 pm #13696There isnt an alternative! Personally i would like to see us bring in Matt Jackson or Arry to help with the defence seeing as both have played recently in the prem. If they arent interested maybe make a offer to Phil Thomson or Hansen to do some work!
Lets be honest yesterday the players would of been hurting, todays the day that the manager sees whether they can leave it behind them and move on!
3-1 saturday youve heard it here first!
24 November 2009 at 1:46 pm #13698at the forum last week martinez said he didn’t beleive in defensive coaches.
” we train as a unit”
:lol:24 November 2009 at 1:52 pm #13701at the forum last week martinez said he didn’t beleive in defensive coaches.Clearly not :D
24 November 2009 at 1:58 pm #13704Yeah but in his team hes got a gk coach, Defensive Midfielder (if hes still there), Cultured Midfielder and a attacker but no defender! Jacko would love to come back and lives close. Arry i think is finishing up his doctorate bit could come back to train with Cribley!
