They were crisper and played some good stuff.
Why was our only tactic 2nd half to get that winger on left knocking balls into the box? We’ve no proper tall striker in there.

That swap change starting 11 final straw for me. “Shut the door Shaun and post the keys through the letterbox ” Not got 1 striker. Hugill not good enough neither is Stones.Can have as many wingers as you want putting as many crosses in as you want but no one there to convert……only has same result every time. Ffs please no one post here what a quality side Mansfield are…..a bang average league 1 side ..end of.65% possession yet again….according to stats 25 attempts with only 4 on goal !!!They had 4!!!! and 2 goals. We are too easy to play against….unless we score 1st we’re screwed…..time and again Maloney wings it with his team selection. Never a settled side….the players must have zero confidence knowing no matter how well they play tombola Maloney will bench them. I understand the owner hasn’t helped his cause but this possession at all costs is f££££££ mind numbing. A relegation battle is now on the horizon….wonder how that will affect the owners squad investment come the next window???.Not at all is my guess.
The recruitment was absolutely pitiful, his style of play coupled with his continued rotation of the squad will only have 1 outcome. Danson needs to act because yes I know we won’t be getting the players we need come January but I’m sure someone with a less complicated approach could get a get a better tune out of this squad. He needs to realise this is league 1 not champions f###### league group stages…..attack with pace ,balls in the box and strikers with physicality to attack the ball…….not this sleep inducing 30 passes to get from Tickle to the halfway line……..Blackpool having a blip but no worry you lashers free hit Wigan in town Monday!!!!
Mansfield are 4th, they might not be the best side we’ve faced but Clough had them well drilled, 2 shots, 2 goals. All that possession for us meant absolutely jack sh*t
A few things I spotted,
1) Bringing on M.Smith to play centre half was a Maloney masterclass decision, an absolute waste of his talent in my opinion.
I can guarantee you one thing, if Smith was at any other club other than Wigan he would be sat just behind the forward looking for that daisy cutter ball through orchestrating the game but at Wigan he spends the vast majority of his time bringing the ball out from the back.
2) then there was the constant getting the ball down the left then sending over a pin point crosses galore to the back post but there was one slight issue Maloney, we had no one at the back post, the ball fly’s over and goes dead. 5 times in the second half we did that the exact same ball cross to the far post no one there.

We never start with the same starting 11 per half nevermind per game. That starting 11 are chopped n changed so much it’s to the point that Maloney thinks we’ve Champions League every other week so he changes the seating 11 by half a team every game and then subs another half a team in the second half. Are these players of ours so unfit they can’t play 2 a week for a few weeks ?? ffs.
This constant chopping and changing so many personal means players cannot form partnerships and understandings it’s Maloney playing dice every game it makes no sense. I’ve never seen a team sheet be so disruptive to a squad than a Maloney roll call.Then there’s Adeeko with an absolute brilliant clinical assist (for them). This comes from been well schooled in safety first football “Receive ball , look forward ……give it back” and that’s exactly what he did but this time he never thought to even looked up.
1st half, shocking 2nd half much better but again, toothless. Hugills not good enough for me and Taylor although his work rate is superb without that feed he’s nothing.
As I previously stated, once this excellent defence of ours starts to leak goals were fooked because we can’t score so those clean sheets are all for nothing.
At the end of the day we play a possession based game were we rarely get beat on the stats chart for possession & passes completed
I thought Millar was brilliant against Carlisle and the 2nd half at Cambridge
But tonight?So looking at the whole wider picture what’s the answer ? There is none, it’s a disjointed thrown together super young abstract side that would need at least 2 years to fel but considering lots will go back next year that won’t be possible.
For me the answer is very simple, Maloney has to be backed in the transfer window. I’m not on about spending millions on players but he needs to be able to bring at least 3 senior players who can work with him and glue this side together.
If Danson thinks this is the way forward bringing in tonnes cheap no experienced youth players who’ve been all lobbed into a giant footballing slow cooker then he’s losing his murps.
I can tell him this, I’ve got a jar of magic beans in my kitchen cupboard he can buy because he must actually believe in fairy tales
People bang on about the players that are not good enough they aren’t world beaters but they are good enough to make an impact in L1, where as the manager constantly drops 4,5 now 6 players a game the players that come in are then taken off second half only to be replaced by the players that have been left out from the previous game, you couldn’t make this shit up.
There are only three players that are guaranteed a start every game, Tickle, Aimson and Kerr the rest is a lucky dip, not making excuses for the players but you have to feel a bit sorry for them, they don’t understand what the manager wants from them, they are in and out of the starting line up every week, told to play safe, needless passing backwards and sideways etc.
If the owners and the chairman want the backing from the majority of fans now is the time to step in and get involved, Maloney has got to go simple as that!
Even if Maloney was given funds in January we would still see the same chopping and changing, confusing tactics etc, time for change and not soon enough, if the hierarchy at the club had anything about them they should have shown some ambition last May and relieved Maloney from his duties, if the owners don’t take action before January we are looking at L2 football next season.
Fuck the EFL
You can guarantee from a final whistle of one game to the final whistle of the next Maloney will have made around 8-10 changes.
And to highlight how far off the mark Maloney is, he plays M.Smith as a holding mid when literally anyone who’s watched football even if you’ve only seen an u13’s game they can clearly see he’s not.Maloney forces Smith into the back line so he can accommodate others. It’s barmy and at times, a very hard watch. The crowds are slowly dropping off which is the first sign.
