Our kid watches that american football crap. He brought to my attention a team in a similar predicament to us. Indianapolis colts have just lost their 8 consecutive game, giving them a current league record of 0-8 (0 wins 8 loses). Know these men are one of the big boys and their fans are used to seeing them win superbowls ffs. Yet they still support and turn up in numbers for their “team”. No vile abuse when a pass is not inch perfect, nothing. They know that it can’t get any worse so they get on with it and support their team
Why can we all not do this FFS. If the unthinkable happens and we go down, then lets do it with a smile on our face, singing and having a knees up in which ever town we end up in
COME ON WIGAN……WE DON’T DO RELEGATION FROM THE TOP FLIGHT. WHY START NOW.

1 November 2011 at 8:37 pm #73250Completely different culture involved in supporting an American football team than there is supporting a european “soccer” team
The Colts have also only won 1 superbowl in the last 40 years so I’m not sure that they pass as one of the big boysI agree with your general point though

1 November 2011 at 11:07 pm #73266Personally I thought “a tram in a similar predicament to us” provided a much better mental image ;)
6 November 2011 at 3:45 am #73559Totally different scenario though. American footy has no promotion or relegation so a terrible season means sod all, and the draft system means that if you are the worst team you pretty much get first choice of all the best college players the following season. So all you really have to worry about is someone moving the franchise to another city.
We could certainly learn from the sport though about how to nurture homegrown talent and simultaneously create true competition.
6 November 2011 at 4:48 am #73563We could certainly learn from the sport though about how to nurture homegrown talent and simultaneously create true competition. We did that over 40 odd years ago, maybe more…….(the yanks cannot teach us anything)and just cast a glance over the “homegrown talent” we now have in the Premier league…….
Oh the innocence of youth.
