What was the Latics most important ever goal?

Jim Fleming’s last minute penalty to beat Peterborough that sent non-league Wigan to Man City the first showing on modern TV radar?

Maurice Whittle’s pile driving free kick to beat Sheffield Wednesday and sent us to Birmingham and then eventually the league?

Jeff Wrights goal against Rochdale to set us on the way to a first league win?

Mike Newell’s goal against Brentford setting up the first Wembley win?

Lee McCulloch settling the nerves against Reading to get into the Prem?

Dave Unsworth at Sheffield or Hugo Rodellega at Stoke for the last day escapes?

No – it’s Aruna Kone’s goal against Newcastle this weekend. Because we’ve got more to lose. The club is at the crossroads now. A cup final and staying in the EPL, Europe and it’s money and some glory, attracting players who would not think of us before, wider audience – or Europe with the Championship – too many games, too small a squad, new names thin on the ground.

Staying up is more important and more valuable than ever, and not beating Newcastle would have been a killer for us.

Of course, the winner against Norwich will be equally as important if we have to scrape it again.

What odds finishing above the Mackems? I think pretty good.

With a game in hand, Wigan are 3 points behind Aston Villa and 4 behind Southampton and Sunderland.

The game in hand may be against Manchester City, but every club has difficult matches to play, including Newcastle; Manchester City v Newcastle, Newcastle v Benfica (Thursday) followed by Newcastle v Sunderland (Saturday) and QPR v Newcastle.

      The league resumes with particularly difficult fixtures for most of the struggling clubs;

      Sat 30 Mar 2013
      Sunderland v Man Utd
      Arsenal v Reading
      Man City v Newcastle
      Southampton v Chelsea
      Wigan v Norwich
      Sun 31 Mar 2013
      Aston Villa v Liverpool
      Mon 1 Apr 2013
      Fulham v QPR

It’s a great opportunity for Wigan to make up more ground.

City are beatable and with the title more or less out of their grasp I think we can do a job on them !

I agree. I think we could get something at city. Not only that but we have 4 other games were we could pick up points.

For once things are going Wigan’s way.

The future may look bleak for Reading and QPR, but the third place could go to to any team in the bottom half of the table.

There will be many nervous moments before the end of the season, but Wigan are certainly as well equipped to face them – if not better – than their rivals.

            Agreed.

            Lets celebrate again….

Whilst we love beating Noblot, ManUre, Scousers et al, there’s a something about the London clubs that gets up my nose. They’re arrogant, conceited…Pardew sums them up.

            Bring on Millwall :P

I totally agree with that as had we drawn the game we probably wouldn’t have had the momentum to beat the Stoke the following week.
It was a result that it also affected some clubs psychologically and I knew we would sty up after that dramatic late win.

Yep, we left the ground very confident of staying up….

After all, Blackpool/Birmingham were likely to loose so a draw would have been enough….

Mental last day though. Loose and still stay up, win and still go down…it was all possible

At least at Sheff Utd it was black and white in our own hands.

Never a dull moment with the Tics… B)
