drove through wrightington today and these signs are up all down mossey lea road11 March 2013 at 10:56 pm #105045They have a point though.
Personally i think they should have used some of the land on the John and or the Taylor pit land directly behind Christopher Park.
Just the small issue of development costs. Lot of old slag around there. And not just on the Lower Ground Estates :P

Talk about nimby, ism, put it anywhere but not in my back yard. You can bank on one thing though if DW wants it near Wrightington Country Cub and Hotel, then that,s where it,s going

Totally agree about this being all about a couple of middle-aged, middle England NIMBY’s with nothing better to do with their time. It’ll all go through fine. Their building a two-story building next to a hotel and painting a few lines on some grass. Hardly building a new town are they?! I hope the protesters got permission from the Highways Agency for those posters…

NIMBY is only relevant when it is something like a power station, rubbish dump or windmill that the objecting groups use in some form, in this case it is not double standards to complain or object to these proposals, unless they are WAFC supporters, add to the fact it is not in the boundries of Wigan I would expect them to be not very happy.

Every single lamp post and telegraph pole has one of the bloody signs on.Of course they are NIMBY’s. They don’t want anything in their back yard that they think may affect their house values.

13 March 2013 at 12:56 am #105109Passed through myself tonight as they were putting them up and wondered what it was all about. I thought it was being built at Christopher Park. I had a look at the proposals and it looks basically like they are replacing a field with a flatter field that has lines and goalposts on. Hardly a nuclear power station. Don’t they realise that the development will virtually ensure that the green belt continues?
