That’s another match for us to go to thanks to diabolical finishing and some piss poor distribution.
Fair play to Fylde they earned their evening at the DW despite our total domination.
Every credit to Paul Cook and his comments on the pitch about Fylde, he’s gone right up in my estimation again after that.2 December 2017 at 1:58 am #163809On the bright side, those who were very vocal about being unable to get a ticket for the Fylde game will be able to get one for the replay!
2 December 2017 at 2:07 am #163810On the bright side, those who were very vocal about being unable to get a ticket for the Fylde game will be able to get one for the replay! There were quite a few empty seats in that side section and before anyone says it could have been people not able to make it then they miraculously must have all been allocated seats together! ;)
2 December 2017 at 2:10 am #163812Absolutely shite against a side who created zilch.Strolled around with zero urgency shocking final ball and finishing particularly Evan’s screw up.Guarantee tv won’t want replay and we will field a weaker side as it will be sandwiched between league games.
2 December 2017 at 2:11 am #163814Shocking support from the Latics tonight bloody rubbish Wigan .
2 December 2017 at 2:50 am #163822Cookie was naive tonight and outdone by Challinor. We were so comfortable it was unreal then second half they brought on the forward to play along side their main striker and it changed the game albeit briefly but they scored in that period. We were passing for passing sake again no real attacking threat . Another game now we didn’t need because we won’t finish teams off . I thought Fylde were shite in all honesty. We will batter em in the replay.

They were shocking…hit and chase merchants. I said beforehand “given our strength in league one and defensive record, I cant see these scoring unless it a world class effort in the top corner…”

2 December 2017 at 4:59 am #163848Was looking forward all week to the game especially after hearing the strength of our team but what a major let down. Totally agree Fylde were absolutely clueless and we should have cruised through easily instead we have another unwanted game.We were piss poor end of.
2 December 2017 at 5:40 am #163849Who remembers when we first signed Morsey and he was a marauding attacking midfielder ? Every time he got the ball back then we anticipated some action, whether it be a run into the box or some great effort on goal from distance but now he seems bereft of any of that?
2 December 2017 at 7:06 am #163851The problem there was that in the first 15-20 minutes it was all nice crisp passing & movement. When that hadn’t created a goal it just became slow, plodding, lump it forward stuff.
Latics got sloppy & complacent against a side who created absolutely nothing & the substitution briefly gave them a kick in their complacency & led to their goal.
Latics goal apart the threat from down either flanl was none existent. Jacobs was alright in the 1st but completely anonymous in the 2nd
Have to disagree about Morsy, he was the only picking the ball up & driving it forward.
2 December 2017 at 1:28 pm #163855Good first half. Poor second.
2 December 2017 at 1:48 pm #163860At one point Burn came flying out of his own half with the ball Hansen style then passed it 2 foot sideways. What is the point of wasting energy to roll it to your mate stood at the side of you. We are obsessed with passing the living shite out of the ball. I can’t remember the last time we played a team as bad as them and we turned it into a training exercise.

With one up front, often having 2 men on him…because they can afford to, we have no option to hit a long one into the corner for someone to chase. Hence we pass sideways and backwards, hoping Jacobs and Massey can get in on the act as well.
Not wanting to have a go at Cook, but this tactic and style is outdated. Barcelona made it popular, with Messi heading the line. But when you have players like him, Iniesta, etc you can do. But even they got sussed out, so changed to playing the 433 they favour now. They still use wingbacks who change to a 2143 formation when on the attack with Busquets dropping in as Dedensive Mid, but have a forward line of Messi, Suarez, and until recently Neymar.
This one up front is garbage, and easy to defend against. It also gives an advantage to the opposition that they can push up further and put you under more pressure.
2 December 2017 at 5:00 pm #163865But as people have reminded me with this modern tactic we are top of the league with the best defence and we are top goal scorers.
Is this just because of the standard of this league Vat or do you think with 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 we would be even further ahead in the league?2 December 2017 at 5:10 pm #163867As a neutral said to me last night “that league 1 must be 1 poor league “…..have to agree.
