Roberto Martinez’s side are back from their training camp in Austria and this evening travel the short distance up the M6 to taken on Championship side Preston North End at Deepdale.
While Martinez is still looking for his first win of the pre-season campaign Alan Irvine’s North End side can boast a run of six games undefeated, in fact they have only failed to win on one occasion – a 1-1 draw against Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground last Tuesday.
The Lillywhites started of their preparation for the new season with a more than convincing display against Austrian part timers FC Hellien 04, running out 11-0 winners.
They then fielded two teams to overcome local amateur sides Bamber Bridge and Chorley on the same evening before defeating Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park and the trip to North Wales.
Preston go into tonight’s game following a confidence boosting 2-1 victory against Premier League side Stoke City at Deepdale, a game in which they looked good value for the win, and will be looking to continue this run against Wigan.
Wigan will need to keep an eye on Preston’s main threats of strikers Jon Parkin and Neil Mellor, who between them scored 21 goals in the league last time out and have continued to find the back of the net during the friendly campaign.
Mellor of course is no stranger to Wigan fans having made 5 appearances whilst on loan from Liverpool 3 years ago, scoring a dramatic late winner against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on his debut.
The game kicks off a 7.45pm and fans can pay on the gate with admission priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions (over 60 and under 16).
