Wigan Athletic are bound to be in the limelight over the next couple of weeks as players agents start to tout their clients off to the highest bidder, but where do we stand right now???

It is no secret that Latics want to secure the permanent signing of Ali Al Habsi, but what sort of money is the going rate for him. His current employers, Bolton Wanderers are playing hardball by rejecting £2 and £3million bids for their third choice keeper.

I personally thought £3million would get him, but reports are saying that the Trotters are holding out for nearer £5 million, a figure that I don’t think Mr. Whelan will entertain unless the wages are right. I think a lot will depend on what Jaaskelainen is planning for his future, as soon as talks are wrapped up with him I think we’ll see more movement.

Going out is Charles N’Zogbia, the Frenchman has been in the French press saying that he on the market for a ‘big’ club that will challenge for silverware next season. That rules out his former employers Newcastle on both counts, but the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and couple of European clubs have shown interest.

No rumours or transfer requests have been muted for any of other players, though there was early talk about McCarthy being courted by Liverpool, but nothing has since been heard.

Apparently Roberto Martinez, the gaffer himself has been put in the frame for both the Aston Villa and the Athletic Bilbao job, but I think he still has unfinished business at Latics and will see out at least the next season at the DW Stadium, if not longer.

All in all a quiet first couple of weeks, but I have no doubt that things will start happening everywhere in the next two weeks, so keep looking in….
