Just Wigan Athletics’ luck that Liverpool seem to have turned the corner days before we play them, but knowing Latics over the past season and a bit, you wouldn’t put it past them pulling off a similar result to last season.

Liverpool are high as a kite at the moment after winning four on the bounce and the last one was against a Chelsea team that seemed like they were running away with the title until Sunday. Fernando Torres and Steven Gerard look to be hitting top form as well.

For Latics though it is another game to try and show that they can mix it with the big boys, and games against Liverpool have reaped the best points yield of the so called big four. We are currently occupying a relegation space at the moment and it is somewhere that we don’t want to linger too long.

Roberto and the lads were very unfortunate not to get anything out of the weekend’s game at Blackburn; hopefully we will get some of the decisions going our way soon. It probably won’t be against the reds, it never is and so we will have to be impressive and make our own luck.

There are no new injury worries for Latics, Liverpool seem to be over the worst of theirs also and so both managers will be able to pick a strong team. For Bobby it will be a bit harder as his players don’t give him consistent signs of which his best team is.

We are still on that learning curve though and until the players consistently perform and use the system Martinez is trying to instil, the longer the ‘this is boring/negative/rubbish’ crew will have to moan.

I feel we are hitting Pool at just the wrong time, but we have to play what is put in front of us and it will be hard. But we have got results against them in the past and so we have some hope.
