Wigan Athletic are the only team to travel to White Hart Lane and come away with three points this season and a similar feat at the DW Stadium on Saturday could ease our relegation fears and maybe even climb out of the bottom three.

It seem a long time since we went to London and grabbed a 1-0 win against Tottenham on their own patch, but if we are to get ourselves out of the mire it will need a similar performance and result.

Harry Redknapp says that he is focussed on his team gaining the results necessary for Spurs to finish fourth and qualify again for the Champion’s League, but the squad could well have one eye on the massive game they have on Tuesday against Real Madrid.

Latics have had a couple of weeks to do nothing but train, except for the ones on International duty, so we should see a lot of energy come three o’clock on Saturday. Spurs will be without Gareth Bale but could see a return for Tom Huddleston.

Latics will have a full squad to pick from for what are arguably our two hardest games in the run in. Chelsea away will follow Spurs but we will then have seen the back of the teams that will potentially fill the top six places in the league.

We currently lie 20th in the league, rock bottom, but three points could see us move up three places and out of the relegation zone. Another three points is all then that separates us and tenth, it is that close and so there are still 10 or 11 teams that can still realistically go down.

Tottenham have their own agenda and are gunning for a top four placing, but that won’t be easy as there is competition up there as well and they might well be better concentrating on winning the Champions League so that they don’t have to worry about the League position.

It will be an end to end game and so our defence will have to be at its best, because even though Spurs have missed pans full of chances against Blackpool, Wolves and West Ham it only takes them to find their shooting boots and all know what they are capable of.

Let’s all get behind the team, come what may, it is Wigan Athletic out there and we need to get behind them.
